This project began at the Philadelphia Opera in 2018, continued in New York at St. John’s Cathedral in 2019, and in London at Printworks in 2022.
The lyric gala Anthony Roth Costanzo is a multi-media theatre experience that combines opera, art, dance, film, and fashion.
Countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo performs ten pieces of music by Philip Glass and George Frideric Handel accompanied by the Opera de Paris Orchestra conducted by Karen Kamensek on stage.
During the concert, painter Glenn Brown CBE creates an artwork live. Five dancers take turns interpreting choreography by Pam Tanowitz. Between arias, the audience listens to soundscapes by artist Sabisha Friedberg.
The Opera features 10 videos commissioned by Visionaire: James Ivory & Pix Talarico, Mark Romanek & Myles Yachts, Tilda Swinton & Sandro Kopp, Jacolby Satterwhite, James Kaliardos & Marisa Tomei, Daniel Askill, Maurizio Cattelan & Pierpaolo Ferrari of Toiletpaper Magazine, Rupert Sanders, AES+F, Mickalene Thomas. The costumes are by Raf Simons.

@danielaskill - Australian amazing and renowned director, visual artist, and producer, based in NY, who’s joining Birth FR roster as our newest director ⚡️
The @nytimes described his work as ‘visually stunning’. Daniel Askill joins Birth’s french and luxury roster with the latest @nissan spot ‘Defy the Limit’, a fusion of cutting-edge visuals and bold creativity. a film that redefines speed, innovation and the future of filmmaking. He has established himself on the international scene thanks to a singular style that is both transporting and emotionally gripping.
He is known for his multidisciplinary approach, blending film, contemporary art, design, and music to create powerful and often poetic works. His creations are characterized by a minimalist visual aesthetic and a deep exploration of themes like time, memory, and the human body.
He gained international recognition with his acclaimed music videos, commercials, and short films, notably co-founding the Sydney-based production company Collider, which specializes in audiovisual production, photography, and design.
A defining moment in his career was the direction of Sia’s iconic « Chandelier » music video, featuring dancer Maddie Ziegler in a visually striking performance. This video, with billions of views, became a touchstone in the music industry.
Daniel has also collaborated with major artists like Paul McCartney, Phoenix, Lady Gaga, and prestigious brands like Dior, Chanel and Mercedes, BMW, Nissan or Audi.
