Built around our own infilled Yuichi Bi-Radial horn, this model adopts the classic style of a highly sensitive speaker, yet is loaded with heavyweight punch from numerous iterations in crossover design, horn augmentation and Friendly Pressure tuning.
Low-end is dealt with using a 10“ Driver with a hard pressed vented paper cone, producing well rounded bass-weight tuned to 33Hz by a flared 3D-Printed port on the rear of the cabinet. Remaining mid range and high frequencies come from a 1.75” voice coil compression driver, coupled to the Bi-Radial Yuichi, covering all angles of listening.
A pair of Y210s is trusted to supply the house party with serious vibration, with a slight risk of complaints from the neighbours.

The name itself embodies the essence of our quest: full colour, high vibrations.

Hi-fi or PA, what actually is it?
Happy to say that after a year and a half, we’ve taken our system to a whole new level at our ground zero space for r&d and fun.
It started with a desire to really create a hifi bar where no detail from stylus to speakers was lost in the signal chain. To the sparky’s disdain we ran twisted 12 gauge cable the length of the venue to each speaker, avoiding any power points or cables.
We started with high end class a/b amps which at the beginning were great, but because of the incredible acoustics from @_bourdeau , we realised around this time last year that we could push the spl a bit more while staying within the council db limits. It was a blessing and a curse, because a system that worked so well for your typical mid week programming, always ended up clipping at peak moments when the dancefloor was packed on a Friday or Saturday.
So we tried some class D amps and as expected all the soul was lost. The compromise was to stickto our class a/b amps as the gains of detail were above that kick clipping when a DJ pushed the master a little too much. After all it was supposed to be a hifi bar and not a club, and when DJs behaved it worked so well.
We knew what the solution could be, it just came at a cost. So just before summer I bought a couple of different Bryston’s to test in varying settings to see how they handled our speakers. We weren’t just surprised, we were blown away.
We’ve now installed Bryston’s in tandem with the best sounding class D NAD amplifier to cover the dance-floor, and it was an absolute joy to listen to in the space last weekend.
The funniest thing is that this is the OG way to build and tune any system - understand it as it grows, find out who it is with different genres around different people. SALT Salon sees the transformation of a Victorian storehouse into a highly crafted listening environment, where hairdressing rituals are shaped by sound and club culture. The project creates a new, experience-led 3-storey sonic salon on Stoney Street.

At that time I was a week away from going back to Jamaica with my family to go and find my grandmothers grave. When I followed up with Alex he came backwith a date that happened to be the day before I left. It was tight but it had to be done.
I turned up a little early to Alvaro’s studio in Whitechapel to be greeted warmly by Dorus who was handling some 6ft tall paintings of sunsets and was directed upstairs. Typically as I do, I walked straight to what looked like Alvaro’s office, saw him inside and politely knocked and announced… “hey its Shivas the speaker guy”. He looked up with an endearing smile and proceeded to show me around what was a school and what he eventually wants to return to being an education center. We then sat with his team for a Maroush lunch, discussed the forthcoming exhibition which he needed sound for, and I of course said “I gotchu”.
The meeting ended with him playing “I am… I Said” by Mikey Spice, the song that inspired the title of his exhibition. 5 days later myself and my family were sat having dinner at a random hotel in Portland and the live-band played that exact version. I chalked it up to the stars, and the power of sharing music.
Since then working with his team has been nothing less than a privilege. We all know what we can do together, and that purpose will drive what comes next.
