I haven’t shared a stage with my friend @stuartdouglasofficial in over 2 decades. That ends this Friday when we swap songs and tell stories at Mater’s in Ft. Payne to help celebrate and raise money for my brother Diego who is battling multiple cancers. Admission is free and there will be a live raffle with lots of great donated items including tickets to @shoalsfest - the new fest created by @jasonisbell & @tennesseetraci. Sure hope y’all can make it!

I met Will after he won a Twitter contest to see The Voice Top 8 tour in Las Vegas. He won it the day before the show and flew into my life that next night in 2011. Shortly after, Robert and I introduced him to our bestie Scott, who would go on to become his husband.

Will was one of the smartest people I’ve ever met. He always supported my creative endeavors and was so generous with his time: listening to demos and mixes, helping Joshua and me get our debut feature edited, and so much more. He was incredibly passionate about movies and TV, a walking Rolodex of everything from Survivor to A24. I loved playing board games with him, and so many of our friends were lucky enough to call him their D&D dungeon master, something I wish I’d taken the time to experience myself.

He died yesterday after battling cancer for almost two years. That’s a year and nine or ten months longer than they gave him when he was diagnosed. He was so stoic through it all: continuing to work, see movies, read comics, DM games, and co-host Movie Bears Podcast every week. He was trying to work from home yesterday when he passed. So much courage and determination.

Robert and I loved him so much and are so grateful he was part of our chosen family. We’re doing everything we can to support Scott during this time, and we ask that y’all hold him and their families in your hearts today.
