Another four and a half years of practice,in notebook form.Anyone who has studied with me knows that a practice journal is an integral part of my practice process.It does more than just chronicle what I practice on any given day, but rather, it organizes my practicing, streamlines my practice regime by making sure I cover all my bases, allows me to clarify my thoughts over the entire process of preparing a project, and maybe most important of all, holds me accountable to the work that I may not feel like doing (long tones) but know will make me a better musician and trombonist.In my practice journal, I make notes on recordings, organize my fundamentals throughout the week, and diagnose problems and implement solutions, taking a lot of the guesswork out of practicing and incorporating a more scientific approach to the craft.Organize your practicing is one of the most important ways to make your practicing efficient, and this has been my most effective tool in that journey.Onto the next 4.5 years of practice!

Conn Trombone Artist John Sipher (@sipherisms) principal trombonist of the Colorado Symphony, visited Colorado State University for a masterclass and performance.

It was great to support John as he shared his experiences with the next generation, and performed his own original compositions, works that are adding a distinctive voice to the trombone repertoire.

I’m super excited to present this recital at Volorado State University this upcoming March 31st at 7:30.I’ve been working hard on new compositions and arrangements and the program will include works by myself, Astor Piazzolla, Erik Satie, @chriscerrone and Steve Reich.I will be joined by Dr. Juhyun Lee and @drewtbone .This will also be my first recital in Colorado since 2017, so it’s been long overdue!Additional support for the recital comes from @connselmerinc @connselmerinc .Hope to see many of you there!
