The Wende Institute for Archival Research, opening Spring 2028.

Next up is the fabulous @tablarishii Rishii Choudhury from the UK. We are delighted and excited to hear his upcoming tabla solo offering at the @wendemuseum on Sunday June 14.

More about Rishii-

Rishii is a highly acclaimed UK-born tabla player who has performed nationally and internationally, and has been involved in and produced numerous collaborative projects funded by the Arts Council England. He was part of TARANG, the national ensemble for Indian classical music founded by Milapfest, which brought together Carnatic and Hindustani classical musicians from across the UK. Rishii was also recognised as “Assam’s Overseas Youth Icon” at the Guwahati International Music Festival.

Rishii’s tabla journey began at the age of four. Over the years, he received taleem from several distinguished tabla maestros, eventually becoming a disciple of the late world-renowned maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain. In August 2024, Rishii was among the last students to present a solo performance to Zakirji. His commitment to continuing Zakirji’s artistic legacy found a natural home through SNTF.

For the past three years, Rishii has been mentored by Zakirji’s senior disciple Salar Nader and has remained an active member of SNTF’s vibrant tabla community. Presenting a solo at the Wende Museum will be a particularly meaningful moment for Rishii, as it offers him the opportunity to share his love for tabla with his Guru Bhais, Guru sisters, and a new audience.

Had an amazing morning with my SNTF @salarnadertablafoundation tabla family as we gear up for the upcoming Tabla Chella retreat in Palm Springs starting June 7 and our Tabla Marathon at @wendemuseum on June 14th.

After being under the weather with the flu, this was my first time back on the tabla since performing with RakeshBhai.

I love letting spontaneous combinations unfold and discovering new combos at different take-off points.

Here’s a taste of the random patterns that emerged today!

Next Friday, May 29, is the return of Digitization Day! Bring your photographs, letters, slides, scrapbooks, and family ephemera to the museum, and digitize them for free between 12:30 and 3:30 p.m.

Reserve a timeslot in advance, or simply walk in! Staff will be on hand to guide you through the scanners and our oversized camera. Just remember to bring a portable USB-A or USB-C storage device, such as a thumb drive or external hard drive, to take your scans home!

Please give yourself extra time to find parking, as our parking lot will be closed this day.

Family Day is tomorrow, Saturday, May 23, from 2 to 4 p.m.!

Join us for a hands-on workshop with @ellerali and Second Life Studio, where you will turn donated T-shirts into reusable tote bags. No sewing required. Clothing is generously donated by @salarmysocal.

This beginner-friendly activity is a creative way to learn about sustainability, reduce textile waste, and make something practical to take home. No experience needed. Adult supervision is required for children age 10 and younger. Participants may arrive anytime during the workshop period.
