Tony & Barb, along with two other BTPM Alums — Mary Haefner Pagnotta (part of the station’s education team back in the day/worked on Reading Rainbow!) and Geri Grossman — were on hand to celebrate as co-author Pam Johnson received a LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD (!!) from EPIC - Every Person Influences Children. Pam’s work — spanning her tenures at Buffalo Toronto Public Media, EPIC, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting — has impacted millions of children in our community and across the country in profoundly positive ways. Congratulations, Pam! 🏆🌈📚

Tony, Pam, and Barb made a presentation about “Creating Reading Rainbow” at the New York State Reading Association Annual Conference held in Buffalo — the birthplace of “Reading Rainbow”! They spoke about how the series took shape over 5 summers of experimentation beginning in the late 1970s, and were joined by Beth Fronckowiak of Buffalo Toronto Public Media, who introduced the re-boot of the series!

Following the talk, the authors signed copies of their book for fans who shared their love of the iconic series. Thanks to NYSRA and Alice, Ever After Books for making this happen!

As co-authors of “Creating Reading Rainbow,” the book that tells the story of the early history and development of the series, we salute our fellow authors. National Author’s Day honors American authors and the books they write, and is observed by reading favorite books, purchasing books by favorite authors, writing to authors, and sharing favorite books online using #NationalAuthorsDay.
