Unsupervised reflects a way of working shaped during my residency in Jingdezhen, the historic capital of porcelain. Embracing curiosity, risk, and intuition, the exhibition treats the studio as an open laboratory, where control is loosened, mistakes are welcomed, and experimentation leads. Moving between discipline and mischief, Unsupervised celebrates freedom, trust in not knowing, and allowing the work to grow on its own terms.
⸻
My first solo exhibition in China is on view at @taoxichuanglassartstudio until 24 Feb 2026. Created during my 3-month residency in Jingdezhen, full of clay, chaos, and togetherness. Thank you to everyone who came to the opening night 🧧✨ Happy Chinese New Year, and thank you for the love!

I would love to invite you to
⸻
The opening event of my solo exhibition
Saturday 2 May 2026 | 2–4pm
at @counihangallery
⸻
Would love love to catch up with everyone face to face. It’s been total over 6 months since I’ve been away from Australia, so I’m really excited to reconnect and see familiar and new faces. Hope to see you there!
⸻
THINGS I CARRIED QUIETLY
Solo Exhibition by Nani Puspasari
Space 1, Counihan Gallery
233 Sydney Road, Brunswick (inside Brunswick Town Hall)
2 May – 19 July 2026
Opening hours: Wed–Sat 11am–5pm, Sun 1pm–5pm
Free entry
⸻
Getting there
• Tram 19 (Stop 21 – Dawson St/Sydney Rd)
• Jewell Station (Upfield line, 5 min walk)
• Bus 504, 506, 508, 509 nearby
⸻
This exhibition reflects on the quiet emotions of migration, cultural transition, and memories of places once called home. Through ceramics and paintings, I bring together fragments of childhood that are playful, tender, and slightly surreal. Hybrid fruits, altered objects, shy animals, and small figures gather like soft constellations, holding traces of belonging and displacement.
⸻
The exhibition also includes Objects Once Held, a participatory project where visitors are invited to draw or write about something meaningful to them, becoming part of a shared memory with the community.
⸻
Presented by @artsmerri_bek
Alongside works by
@GrumpyEnoki
@JoshHedeArt
@JudyK__

Alongside works by
@GrumpyEnoki
@JoshHedeArt
@JudyK__

Airing on Sun, May 28th - 5pm - I will be sharing the stories behind my art on @abc_arts ABC Art Works Season 3, episode 12 https://iview.abc.net.au/show/art-works
Being an artist requires passion, dedication, and talent. But it's even harder for immigrant artists to establish themselves in a new country, even after 15 years of living here. One big challenge was understanding Australian art norms and cultural differences. Each country has its artistic heritage and preferences. My art style might not be immediately accepted by the local audience and art community. Being an immigrant artist trying to get recognized is emotionally challenging. There's a lot of rejection, often being ignored and little connection.
Last week, something surreal happened. I was given an amazing opportunity to showcase my artwork on an Australian art TV program. It all started when a stranger, to whom I randomly shared my art struggles a year ago, invited me last week (thank you so much Lauren 🥰🙏). Through sharing my experiences, I hope to inspire and uplift other aspiring artists who face similar challenges, especially immigrants and people of colour. I firmly believe in supporting one another, regardless of our backgrounds. Let's GENUINELY be kind to each other.
I want to express my gratitude to @abc_arts ABC's fantastic and lovely team. They were incredibly supportive and welcoming, easing my nervousness during my visit to the TV station yesterday. I truly admire their friendly work environment 🥰🙏

During my residency at Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park @air_sccp last year, I had the chance to visit NOTA Shop in Shigaraki, Japan. A beautifully thoughtful space where ceramics, architecture, exhibitions, and daily life quietly come together. Located inside a renovated former pottery factory, the space carries the long history of Shigaraki’s ceramic culture while feeling deeply contemporary at the same time.
.
The front area functions as both a shop and exhibition space, thoughtfully displaying ceramics, objects, and artworks within warm timber interiors and raw industrial textures.
What I found especially inspiring was that behind the store, ceramic production is still actively happening, keeping the connection between making and exhibiting very alive.
.
NOTA continues to honour Shigaraki’s pottery traditions while supporting contemporary practice and creative exchange. Last year also marked the first year of their artist residency program, creating new opportunities for artists to live and work within this evolving ceramic community.
.
The name “NOTA” comes from the adhesive used in pottery-making, symbolising connection between people, objects, materials, and place; something that could truly be felt throughout the entire space.

The name “NOTA” comes from the adhesive used in pottery-making, symbolising connection between people, objects, materials, and place; something that could truly be felt throughout the entire space.

All the Small Lives at Once
2026
Acrylic on 2 panel canvases
120 x 240cm
.
✿ Currently on display
Solo Exhibition by Nani Puspasari
THINGS I CARRIED QUIETLY
Space 1, Counihan Gallery
233 Sydney Road, Brunswick
(inside Brunswick Town Hall)
2 May – 19 July 2026
@counihangallery
.
Opening hours:
Wed–Sat 11am–5pm
Sun 1pm–5pm
Free entry
.
This exhibition reflects on the quiet emotions of migration, cultural transition, and memories of places once called home. Through ceramics and paintings, I bring together fragments of childhood that are playful, tender, and slightly surreal. Hybrid fruits, altered objects, shy animals, and small figures gather like soft constellations, holding traces of belonging and displacement.
.
The exhibition also includes Objects Once Held, a participatory project where visitors are invited to draw or write about something meaningful to them, becoming part of a shared memory with the community. @artsmerri_bek @merri_bekcitycouncil

@artsmerri_bek @merri_bekcitycouncil

at @counihangallery
.
presented by @artsmerri_bek @merri_bekcitycouncil
