What’s the difference between a realistic painting and a photograph? A frame?

There are numerous conversations in the artistic world on 1. the decline of realism and 2. if a click of a camera counts as art. Nonsensical points of discussion in my personal view as both require a true mastery of skill to develop a truly exceptional product, however, the argument remains… isn’t it the same output on the wall?

Distribution of Wealth

This photo was taken of a very luxurious chair placed in the middle of a camel farm in a deserted area in the Middle East. The shot is a satirical poke on what the distribution of wealth looks like for some countries in the world.

Often natural resources benefit wealthy elites, and a small percentage of the population involved in the related industry. While there is a middle class, it faces challenges in upward mobility due to economic dependence and limited diversification in job opportunities. While governments provide various subsidies and welfare programs they do not fully address the disparities, particularly in rural areas where poverty persists resulting in a lack of overall development for all.

There has been a lot of ambiguity on the topic of China’s involvement in the operations of Trinidad Lake Asphalt. For a number of years China has leased Trinidad’s natural asphalt resource primarily for resale and use in their belt and road initiative throughout the Caribbean. Needless to say, there are layers of controversy as the Lake Asphalt company is reportedly receiving subventions of millions of dollars from the government in addition to disgruntled workers. Questions have been posed on why the resale of the asphalt is done as a mark up by China as opposed to directly from Trinidad. Above all, taxpayers wonder why the nations roads are an obstacle course when we have the lake as a natural resource on a small Island.

China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) aims to enhance global trade and infrastructure development through investments in various countries. However the initiative has been said to lead to unsustainable debt for participating countries, making them vulnerable to Chinese influence and control over their infrastructure. Many projects lack transparency, raising concerns about corruption and the misuse of funds. There are also instances where projects benefit Chinese companies disproportionately. The BRI is seen as a tool for China to expand its geopolitical influence, which has raised alarm among rival nations, particularly the United States. Questions about the quality and long-term sustainability of BRI projects have been raised, with some nations facing challenges in maintaining the infrastructure built.
