The sonic landscape of Raphael Reichl, aka NOEMA, is eloquent and profound: a self-reflection on masculinity in time and sound. MeanField Mutation is a thermodynamic phenomenon occurring just below the vaporization point of voracious growth. It relies on the debris of false and almost forgotten narratives. Astral residue of consumer angst, echoes of obsolete newspeak and oscillations of promotional imbecilities collide with free floating particles hovering under the radar of the megamachine. In steady intervals, this results in a meltdown producing random waves of reconfigurations driven by cryptic but sanguine naivety.

Written and produced by Piero Mirio Scherer during the pandemic winter of 2021 in his bedroom studio in Zurich. Moving between playful serenity and feral distortion, it was produced by layering sounds from field recordings, radio and TV clips, as well as sequences from drum machines and analogue synthesizers on a four-track tape recorder, and mangling them over time. Taking a stance against commercial copyright, all stems of this production are available for download free of charge and ready to be reappropriated.

Ten years ago, in a wonderful studio brimming with analog synths, this EP was born. Conceived by Jack Pattern and a glittering disco ball, it has been quietly maturing ever since, and now—2026—is finally the moment it steps into the light.

The EP is a “special‑breed” record that needs a very particular kind of care: a splash of frequency‑tuned “amniotic water” to coax its newborn tracks into full‑blown life. Think of it as a sonic nursery where every wobble, pulse, and filter sweep receives a gentle, ultrasonic cuddle.

Its womb? An oak‑lined hard‑drive forest—a mystical corner of cyberspace where magic sound‑spells are scrawled on invisible parchment and rogue waveforms drift lazily. Legend has it that Merlin, the EP’s unofficial step‑father, once paused his bubble‑bath shrimp paella to tap a drumbeat into the ether, and that wandering giants still practice fugitive drumming for eternity. That’s how it grew up.
