Exploring the potential of craft as a form of slow and embedded local change. My project situates itself in Peckham, South London, where I see my site as a social infrastructure that could be adapted into cared-for spaces for planning, learning, and community exchange. Re-imagining space to explore co-design and implement spatial components that have been translated through craft-based practices.

Year 2 review exhibition!

I experimented with how textiles/fabric can be used to facilitate collaborative making, storytelling, and communication.

Challenging the boundaries of construction, deconstruction and reconstruction, by questioning ways to make these inaccessible spaces softer places of discussion with their surrounding communities.

Moments of making.

It was so beautiful to see a group of people taking over the pavement to do some crafts together. It was such a touching moment to witness different people coming together to share, create, and exchange ideas.

Thank you so much to everyone who was able to join us and share your time. It truly was a wonderful experience for us all, chatting, getting to know you and Croydon better, and enjoying a creative space together.

Snippets from my placement!

During my placement with @_newpractice, I had the opportunity to step into the world of community-led design and placemaking. Each task challenged me to think beyond the practice and connect directly with the lived experiences of others.

Some of the most valuable moments came from stepping out of my comfort zone, the in-person engagements I was able to assist the team members with, helped develop my communication skills. From learning to facilitate conversations, adapt to diverse environments, actively listening, and handle the unpredictability of working in public space, I believe these are all important aspects that will shape my approach as a practitioner.

My experience on this placement reminded me that community engagement isn’t a checklist but a continuous living process that needs time, patience, and a sense of care.

I’m incredibly grateful to Becca and Marc at New Practice for welcoming me and giving me the opportunity to be a part of the team over the past two months. Thank you as well to Samuel, Barbara, Bek, Maeve and Zoe for their mentorship and guidance throughout my placement.

Radical reimagining of Alton East’s point blocks. Developing a spatial strategy where our construction methods and communal interventions are replicated throughout listed buildings in the UK, using this retrofit project proposal as a platform to engage the local community by integrating the surrounding landscape, we envision a retrofit project that foster a sense of collective ownership.

The Afterlife of Print

A @csm_architecture_march x @mabiodesign collaboration.

Made from strips of magazine paper bound together with yarn, the paper yarn structure draws inspiration from the organic forms of cellulose fibers and Matyy Bovan’s ‘Ribbons’ installation.

Speculating on a future where physical books become obsolete, and digital media fully replaces traditional forms of knowledge. Questioning the fate of physical books and the evolving role of libraries, we transform the paper waste into a mural structure allowing to inhabit a air-purifying tiles made from discarded book waste.
