One of my go-to spots for Japanese sushi in Long Beach is @kihonsushi which has been around for over a decade. And they’re still very good.

This time, I got the omakase experience alongside the miso cod, shigoku oysters, and sea bream nigiri. Everything was fantastic.

The fish was all very fresh and delicate.

Each course was incredible, ending with an A5 wagyu, Santa Barbara uni, and Spanish mackerel nigiri.

If you love sushi, then you must add Kihon to your list.

Here’s a peek into Long Beach’s newest spot @eatwithbacari, and it’s stunning. It sits on the second street artery of Naples, with an interior that is composed like an extravagant Mediterranean villa with a splash of medieval castle motif. The first floor is moody and romantic, while the second floor opens up into an airy covered indoor-outdoor vibe.

The whole space is worth visiting for its aesthetic alone.

As for the bar program? The drinks are well curated with a roster of cocktails that fill the range of bright and fresh, to spirit forward with depth.

The food is loosely Mediterranean-inspired with a wide menu of tapas-like bites. Crudo, salads, meats, and pizza.

In brief, Bacari Long Beach is a dazzling addition to the Long Beach food scene. Look forward to their opening day on June 1st.

There’s a newer Italian spot in Long Beach and it’s @massimosnaples on Naples. If you were a fan of Michael’s on Naples, you’ll find many of your old favorites here—and even improved from what you may remember. I got to enjoy some of the bites that I loved, alongside many new bites as well.

Here’s what I got: Asparagi, salsiccia e rapini; prosciutto, burrata e pesche; paccheri con brasato (braised short rib); and mortadella, pistacchio e stracciatella white pizza. It was all really good. The salsiccia was sausage with rapini and polenta, and that was rich and comforting. Meanwhile the burrata e pesche was bright and light. As for my favorite, I loved the pizza. It’s creamy and covered in pistachios.

All in all, Massimo’s is a fantastic Italian spot that particularly good for date night. Next time you’re looking for a nice night out, be sure to add them to your list!

To say the new @eatwithbacari location in Long Beach is pretty is an understatement—and I have your first look at the interior.

Eschewing any sense of minimalism after taking over the former Michael’s on Naples space, Bacari’s @nianaplesisland location reads less like a clean, contemporary restaurant buildout and more like a transportive, layered environment. Think Mediterranean villa meets an old-world European brasserie meets a romantic lounge. It carries a deliberate sense of age and warmth, as if the space has existed for decades rather than being newly introduced to Naples.

It opens June 1. Wanna know more? Link in bio.

CERT Ribbon Cutting! ✂️ 🧯🦺⛑️

Thank you to our neighborhood CERT organization for organizing our NEW safety preparedness trailer, donated by the Fire Department!

The CERT team and neighborhood came together and revamped our cache of safety needs and we thank them for that!!!

This wouldn’t be possible without the help and support of our @longbeachseabase and the team who saved us a spot for storage of this bad boy.

Being ready for any natural disasters is a must for a community like ours and fortunately we have a group of ready, willing and able block captains and organizers who make us an example for other neighborhoods.

Thank you to everyone who came out and a huge thank you the @longbeachfire @longbeachseabase and @cmkristinaduggan for making it happen 🙏

@lbcertnaples for all of your Naples safety needs ⛑️

Chef @mikeflores1386 , the man heading the kitchen at the @nianaplesisland gem that is @marlena_longbeach in Long Beach, isn’t chasing seasonality as a trend so much as he is using spring as a culinary lens. A handful of new dishes dot the menu’s staples and, with them, reflect what all the great restaurants of Long Beach are doing in the springtime. Bright produce. Restrained richness. Sharp, hefty handfuls of herbs. Preserved and freshly squeezed acidity.

And, perhaps most noticeably, the sort of produce-forward cooking that feels unmistakably Californian. Surely, Marlena opened as a Mediterranean-centric space, leaning heavily into Spanish and Italian influences; in a sense, it still does. But Marlena is one-hundred percent Californian in both its flair and love affair with the dichotomy of light and decadence.

From a spectacular asparagus pizza and snap pea salad to scallop crudo and Pachamama pork chops, this spring menu is all about contrast.

In the neighborhood of @nianaplesisland and across from @kihonsushi, @teofilocoffeecompany has officially opened its first Long Beach location.

But it’s more than just a coffee shop.

Teofilo and the entire family behind it, led by Ron Dizon, are uplifting a part of Filipino culture that was once respected but now sits in the shadow of the larger caffeine conversation: the incredible beans its many islands produce. Their work is a testament to community, family, heritage, and how human ties to the earth are amongst our most precious.
