🚌 Kids deserve a healthier ride to school.

Electric school buses mean zero tailpipe emissions, cleaner air around students and bus stops, and a safer ride for communities.

Diesel exhaust pollution has been linked to asthma and other respiratory issues in children, which can affect learning and lead to more missed school days. Electric school buses help reduce that exposure while also giving students a quieter, cleaner ride every day.

Cleaner rides can make a real difference. Support electric school buses and cleaner air for kids and your community by visiting the link in my bio!

The Play Fair for Parks Coalition today responded to Mayor Mamdani’s FY27 Executive Budget. Coalition leaders applauded the administration’s addition of $15 million in baselined annual investments for @NYCParks, while noting the continued need for additional funding to cover the extremity of staffing losses under the previous administration.

Statement from Play Fair Co-Founders, New Yorkers for Parks (@NY4P) Executive Director Adam Ganser and New York League of Conservation Voters (@NYLCV) President Julie Tighe:

“The Play Fair Coalition applauds Mayor Mamdani for recognizing the importance of investing in New York City’s parks system in his executive budget. This $15 million commitment of permanent funding for NYC Parks workers is a meaningful step toward reversing years of underinvestment and following through on the mayor’s pledge to increase Parks Department spending to 1% of the City budget by the end of his term. It reflects real progress towards a more livable city for all New Yorkers where parks are prioritized as essential, affordable infrastructure. That said, given the severity of staffing losses under the previous administration, we also continue to call on the mayor to make additional urgent investments and baseline 100 Parks Enforcement Patrol and GreenThumb staff who will lose their jobs at the end of June. We look forward to working with the administration and City Council to ensure sustained support for our parks workforce and the resources needed to maintain safe, clean, and accessible green spaces in every neighborhood across the five boroughs.”

Last Wednesday, May 6th, NYC leaders and Advocates, along with @ridersalliance and NYC Council Speaker @julmenin, gathered at City Hall to call for the expansion of Fair Fares, a city wide program founded in 2019 that provides affordable transit for low-income New Yorkers.

“Nearly 1 million New Yorkers qualify for reduced fares, but officials said many have not signed up because the enrollment process is too complex, while others are unaware the program exists,” according to ABC.

NYLCV’s Deputy Director for NYC Policy, Alia Soomro, testified at the City Council meeting in support of the expansion of Fair Fares (shown above) along with expanding eligibility to those earning up to 300% of the poverty line.

Introducing “Electrifying the Bronx,” our newest 135 ft mural at a Bronx school bus depot – 1101 Zerega Avenue – created by local artist Daniel Bonilla, known as ARTMANDAN (@artmandan) in collaboration with New York League of Conservation Voters (@nylcv).

ARTMANDAN wanted to capture the voices of students who take the bus, so he engaged with residents of NYCHA’s Castle Hill Houses. Through a series of workshops hosted at the Sonia Sotomayor Community Center, the mural's design was shaped with the vision of local stakeholders. “Electrifying the Bronx” celebrates clean, electric school buses and the vibrant communities they serve. It's a powerful reminder of how electric technologies support cleaner air, reduced pollution, and healthier neighborhoods for families. The mural is part of the project, "Electrifying School Buses in the Bronx and Beyond," developed by New York City School Bus Umbrella Services and supported by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority as part of the Clean Transportation Prizes program.

ARTMANDAN is a full-time artist born and raised in New York City, specializing in large-scale murals. He’s known for the bright, inviting colors that define his style. His work spans the 191 St Tunnel to the Uptown Grand Mural project in Harlem. In 2020, Bonilla won an award for his contributions to the Dyckman Collective, an initiative that creates artworks on themes of Latino identity, the Black Lives Matter Movement, and Dyckman and Washington Heights.

We're grateful to have partnered with New York League of Conservation Voters (@nylcv), New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (@nyserda) and New York City School Bus Umbrella Services (@nycsbus) to bring this mural to the Bronx!

Shout out to the staff at the Bronx Bus Depot for their kindness and the many cups of coffee shared with ARTMANDAN.

And a heartfelt thank you to @cmamandafarias for supporting this project, and being a hands-on presence in the community.

Over 1.1 million children in New York are breathing extremely unhealthy levels of air pollution — and the diesel buses that take them to and from school every day are part of the problem.

Next week, join our webinar with @lungassociation to explore the state of air quality in New York, the health and financial costs, and the benefits of switching to clean #ElectricSchoolBuses.

It’s #WorldAsthmaDay- and asthma is a leading cause of chronic illness and school absences in American kids, especially kids of color. Breathing in their buses’ toxic fumes makes it worse.

Today is a crucial reminder that the 20.5 million American kids who ride school buses deserve transport that protects their lungs, as well as the planet they’re inheriting. That means #ElectricSchoolBuses, not diesel.
