Get your wooly tights ready, because on the shortest day of the lunar year, when the earth’s southern pole reach its maximum tilt away from the sun, Mont is organising its first social bike packing ride.

Over Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st of June, we invite riders to join us as we ride out of Canberra and into the bush. The plan is to start in Canberra, at the Mont Shop, and ride out to Blue Range Hut Campground. Over approximately 55km, you will see the best of Canberra, before heading into the wilderness for the night. A chance to stargaze under the clear winter skies while sitting around a campfire awaits before we ride back into Canberra the next morning.

Following on from the great winter solstice rides she’s organised in the past few years, Steph Skinner (Canberra gravel riding heavyweight) will be giving a talk on one of her recent multi-week bike packing trips in the evening, and the legends at Omafiets Bicycle Shop will be around for some mechanical expertise.

This ride is a chance to test out bike packing for the first time, spend a weekend with your riding crew, or meet up with the rest of the Canberra bikepacking community. It is a fully self-supported event, meaning we will provide a suggested route, and have booked out the campground, but you will need to bring everything you require to spend a weekend out in the bush, including food, camping equipment, and clothing (a gear list will be provided). You will also be responsible for your own safety.

Even super heroes need a bit of help sometimes ! You may have seen the quite amazing Catman who just finished an epic adventure walking more than 6000kms across Australia pushing a wheelbarrow.

After the great folks at Curve cycling helped combine the well travelled wheelbarrow with an amazing new custom bike, Catman got in touch here in Sydney to say the setup needed a little bit of tweaking to help redistribute the more than 50kgs of cargo he is carrying !

We were more than happy to help with a setup of OldManMountain racks and Ortlieb Back rollers, yellow of course !

Never fear the mighty trailer is still coming along for the ride, just now with a bit more of a balanced weight distribution !
