With a Tuesday Day Pass you can enjoy see a special screening of the winners from this year’s Royal Television Society: North East & The Borders Student awards and Young, Emerging and Student Shorts Screening 1 - Presented by our friends at Connected Campus. Connected Campus is North East Screen’s talent development network linking universities and colleges with industry. Through masterclasses, workshops and networking events, Connected Campus helps students build the skills, contacts and confidence to start a screen career in the North East.

This year features short films from The University of Sunderland, Northumbria, Newcastle and Teesside Universities, Gateshead College, Washington Young Filmmakers and the Northern School of Art!

Gan Canny’; a film I lensed last year, won an award at the @rtsnetb awards last weekend! To see our film up with the giants of filmmaking in the North East will stick with me for a long time. To see some of our ideas up on a screen (me ‘why don’t we do the joker shot hanging out the window?’ @mic_b_ne ‘yeah, go on then’) will also stick with me for a long time. Thank you for an amazing night, thank you for the trust @morningsirproductions I’m super hyped on where Gan Canny is going. Big love to @red_stamp_productions winning best documentary for ‘Sand Dancers’ too; I lensed another project with them in the commercial category, which @thethirdaspect won with their film for Nigel Colbourne (to be in the same category as @kyleheslopdop was a trip). An amazing night almost exactly a year since I first met with @morningsirproductions to chat about Gan Canny 💜

Jason Cook in Conversation with Ed Bye

Join us for a special evening with one of British comedy’s most influential figures, as comedian Jason Cook sits down with legendary director and producer Ed Bye.

Thursday 14th May, 7.30pm @customshousesouthshields

From Bottom and Red Dwarf to Death on the Tyne, Murder They Hope, My Family, French & Saunders, AbFab, Vicar of Dibley, Canned Carrott and Kevin & Perry Go Large. Ed will take audiences behind the scenes of the shows that defined generations of comedy.

Expect candid stories, insights into working with some of the biggest names in TV, and plenty of laughs along the way.

There’ll be an audience Q&A if you’ve got any questions.

If nothing else it’ll be a hilarious chat between two old (one older than the other) and hilarious (we hope!) friends (actual friendship under constant review)
