!!! Mama and I for @voguechina — an extension of the “IntergenerationalLearning” story that we worked on together for the September Issue.

Not pictured is my grandma, who I humbly admire and could not make the shoot — but as the next generation of our family, I stand amongst very kind, selfless female leaders, who have shown me the ropes, and guided me on my own path.

A lot of love to @VogueChina for sharing and supporting my journey and this story in particular.

Photographed at home by my Dad • Special thanks to @ez0es

Excited to share a specialcommissioned piece for @voguechina [September Issue] • In conversation with Chinese-American actress Joan Chen 陈冲 and her daughter Audrey Hui 许文姗 inspired by intergenerational learning.
——
Article Translation:
INTERGENERATIONAL LEARNINGS: Five groups of intergenerational dialogues involving inheritance, growth and mutual inspiration. They use words to push away the fog that pervades each other to interpret the complex and tortuous foreshadowing of each other’s lives.Different generations bring conflicts of ideas, but they will always be reconciled. Their dialogue seems to be a bridge connecting the present and the future, providing us with evidence of the gradual progress of life.

—-
Joan: I don't know exactly at what moment I got this, either from my parents or reading books, I did believe that true romantic love only happens once in your lifetime. And so in my youth I was so cautious, I cannot use this one up and he has to be so certain. And then eventually you just do a stupid thing.

Audrey: I used to slightly believe that, but now more I'm definitely still like a romantic and think it's gotta be a certain way, but not as extreme.

Joan: No, love does happen more than once, so it's okay.

—-
To my mother, my collaborator— who spent an entire day on set with me and translated the interview from English to Chinese (which is also a feat for her since English is her second language.) This moment brought me back to my childhood memories of her voice telling me I should learn Chinese as “it will be useful for work.” It was the first time she experienced a day in the life of what I do for work. (More on that another time)

I love when projects come full circle. Shine your light 🤲🏼✨

ACG Radical Air Flow testing.

Working with heat, cooling, airflow mesh, pressure, and uneven saturation — exploring how the material reacts through temperature and exposure.

The color shifts started to feel connected to airflow, atmosphere, and movement. Somewhere between performance wear and material study.

1/1 material study for @michaelwashh

Feeling the spirit today with the San Francisco Chinese New Year Parade🪭🧨
Last year I went to Taishan it’s neighboring counties where my grandparents are from, and watched lion heads being made by hand. What surprised me most was seeing women at the worktables shaping the faces, layering paper, painting each detail.
I grew up studying lion dance myself, performing across San Francisco. Seeing the craft behind it — the bamboo frames, the papering, the paint — felt like a full circle moment.
The workshop I visited in Kaiping traces its roots back to 1888. For generations it has produced lion heads, drums, and instruments for Awakening Lion teams across the diaspora, including many here in the United States.

Watching the work up close, lion dance is performance. The real work is craft, labor, and lineage.

Spent time in Guangdong ♥️
1,100 years of footsteps.
A gateway south.
📍Liurong Temple 六榕寺: a flower pagoda, 1,500 years deep.

wishing trees, double coin symbols, incense haze, firecracker remnants pressed into ancient stone.

as the year turns again, I carry a few elements back with me — endurance, movement, discipline. what draws your eye when returning home?

indigo dyeing in my ancestral village... a method passed hand to hand, not documented, but still in tact. I love its ancient origins, global history, and cultural significance. 🦋💙
