We first performed Angel Island Oratorio in the barracks where those words were carved into the walls. Some scenes from the extraordinary Path of Miracles production created by KT Nelson for @odcsf and @voltisf, which we performed this week at @saintjosephsartsfoundationin San Francisco. We’ve been working on this project since 2017, and I’ve now performed it in nine runs, all around the country. It’s an immersive site-specific dance, set on composer Joby Talbot’s hour+ a cappella choral symphony for 17 singers, inspired by the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage in the north of Spain. KT’s production truly carries the performers and the audience alike through a physical, emotional, and spiritual journey. It’s a deeply gratifying experience every time we get the chance to do this piece.
