Dave Grohl’s *actual* drum fill inspiration 😳 🥁 As Grohl suggests in that viral clip with Pharrell, his “blep-um” drum fill which iconically appears in a number of Nirvana songs (“Teen Spirit”, “Come as You Are”, “Lithium” etc) can be heard in an awful lot of 70s funk & disco songs, such as the Gap Band’s “Early in the Morning” and “Burn Rubber” as well as P-Funk’s “(Not Just) Knee Deep” (as sampled by De La Soul for “Me Myself and I”) and “Get off your ass and Jam.”

But the complete drum fill he plays at the top of “Teen Spirit” also includes 7 syncopated 16th-note kicks which are not found in the funk songs mentioned above; but they *are* in the fill played by Budgie at the top of Siouxsie and the Banshees’ 1985 song “Cities in Dust”!
