CSD Library had the honor of welcoming Mychal Threets, a widely acclaimed librarian and literacy advocate from Fairfield, California, known for his viral “library joy” videos on social media. He is also the PBS resident librarian and host of the reboot of *Reading Rainbow*. Recently, he authored the newly released book, “I’m So Happy You’re Here: A Celebration of Library Joy.”

During his visit, Mychal met with our ECE–High School students to discuss the importance and joy of libraries. As he shared, “I grew up in libraries, raised by libraries, loved everything about libraries. It is a place where you can just be as you are, you can come on inside, you can take joy in that as an introvert [or] an extrovert.”

He encouraged everyone to own a library card and discover the joy of visiting libraries. No matter your age, interests, or favorite genre, there is something for everyone to enjoy through books and reading.

Mychal is also a strong mental health advocate. He shared important insights about embracing individuality, understanding that it is okay to feel different, and learning how to advocate for ourselves. His message also highlighted the importance of creating inclusive spaces where the Deaf community and all learners can fully access literacy and experience joy.

We were fortunate to have him on campus to share his experiences, positivity, and passion for literacy and mental health. He also participated in a story-signing video for his book alongside our students, staff, and families.

Happy Cinco de Mayo!🎉

Celebrate by reading books featuring Mexican and Mexican-American characters, culture, and history!

Cinco de Mayo marks the anniversary of the 1862 victory by Mexican troops over invading French forces at the Battle of Puebla.

The triumph over the better-equipped and much larger French troops was an enormous emotional boost for Mexican soldiers led by Gen. Ignacio Zaragoza.

Peak library joy & book joy to help surprise library kid Max on @jenniferhudsonshow 🥹📚

Video Description:
Library kid Max kindly talks about Mychal Threets, author & host of Reading Rainbow, being one of his inspirations. There aren’t a lot of people of color or men as librarians, and Max questions where would be without them. Jennifer Hudson appears inspired by Max and surprises him by inviting Mychal the Librarian to join them on the happy place. Mychal appears smiling & waving, hugging both Max and Jennifer Hudson. Max’s mom, @ebonylynnmudd, looks on as he kindly calls Mychal his role model as he sits next to him, and Jennifer Hudson asks how it feels for Mychal to hear from library kids he may be inspiring ✨

Anonstories oferuje doskonałe rozwiązanie do ukrywania swojej tożsamości.
