We think about them all the time 🥑 4046 is an avocado.
Until compostable produce stickers are the norm, here’s how to unpack your produce:
When you get home, unbag all your produce and remove stickers. Stick those suckers on your #bennettbucket lid or toss them in the trash.
Wash and dry your produce! While water alone is sufficient, we prefer to fill a large salad bowl with water and vinegar (1 part vinegar, 3 parts water) - especially for berries!
Added benefit: this process will also extend your produce’s freshness and shelf life dramatically by removing bacteria and fungi from your fruits and veg!
Finally, be sure to dry thoroughly before storing properly: leafy greens get wrapped in clean dish towels, apples go on the countertop, and berries go in clean glass jars, stored in the fridge.
Don’t forget: bananas, apples, avocados and tomatoes should NOT be stored with each other or your other produce, as they’re high ethylene producers that will cause your other produce to go bad, faster.
Have any tips or tricks to share about how you keep your produce fresh? Share in the comments so we can all cut down on wasted produce - and stretch our food budgets!
#composting #foodstorage #foodwasteprevention
Our #compost is made from #foodscraps collected by households like yours - AND businesses throughout Philly! Businesses generate much more food waste than a household, so when they start composting the impact is on a whole different scale. Here’s how much #foodwaste just three of our commercial composters have diverted so far:
🍞 @bakerstbread - 30,208 lbs
☕️ @mtairycoffeeco - 13,440 lbs
🥬 @weaversway - 640,461 lbs
Thanks to a grant from @closed_loop + @bpicertified to update our Rising Sun Facility, we will be able to accept a greater volume of #BPIcertified products from our commercial composters.
That means less landfill waste, AND a stronger incentive for our commercial partners to think about the full journey of their materials, from how they source to where it all ends up.

As if you weren't excited enough for the kickoff of our Live @ Roots Garden season this Sunday and Jazz on the Green (June 6) just around the corner, we are thrilled to announce a special project called de/composition: Native Trees, Sonic Roots - A Multimedia Exploration of Nature in Neighborhood. Our resident sound scientist June Lopez, in collaboration with video projectionists Samara Talkin & Neil Cippon and dancer/ecologist/"science dramaturg" extraordinaire Dr. Jame McCray, will debut a site specific performance at Bennett Compost on June 27 @ 8 PM. Their performance will take inspiration from the watershed, wildlife, and plant-life in Tacony Creek Park. This immersive multi-sensory experience is not to be missed! Visit decomposition.eventbrite.com to learn more. (WARNING: Intense lighting will be used during this show. It will not be safe for those with epilepsy and other conditions with sensitivity to light.)

🗑 Fewer times taking out the trash per week
🤮 Your garbage can won’t stink!
💚 You get the satisfaction of doing the right thing and living your values
🌱 FREE compost! That’s right - all our composters get back some of the compost they helped create each spring.

A #raingarden can make all the difference when it comes to rain water runoff - and helps #pollinators, too! 🐝🦋
Our 30g raised bed mix and #compost are the perfect soil for your rain garden project. Did you know 💡 that soil enriched with high-quality compost can hold up to 20 TIMES more water than barren soil? (That's 1 cup v. 1.25 gallons!)
Here's how to get started:
💦 Scout your property for the best location; take note of where water naturally flows and collects.
💦 If you have a tight property, consider placing a large, raised bed planter directly under your down spout.
💦 If you have a poured concrete back yard, consider replacing it with water-permeable pavers.
Here's a list of plants that work well for the Philadelphia-area's climate and ecosystem:
🌸 Blue flag iris (Iris versicolor)
🌸 Joe Pye weed (Eupatorium dubium)
🌸 Cardinal flower (Lobelia cardinalis)
🌸 New England aster (Symphyotrichum novae-angliae)
🌸 Culver's root (Veronicastrum virginicum)
🌸 Columbine (Aquilegia canadensis)
🌸 Ostrich fern (Matteuccia struthiopteris)
🌿 Bottlebrush grass (Hystrix patula)
🌿 Broomsedge (Andropogon virginicus)
🌿 Eastern narrowleaf sedge (Carex amphibola)
🌿 Pennsylvania sedge (Carex pennsylvanica)
Here's the best part - @phillyh2o's Rain Check program can help you out with the costs of building your new rain garden - up to $1500 total! That's a deal too good not to consider!

It's #loveyourparkweek from the 9th to 17th! 💚🌳 Did you know that public parks are the primary way most Americans encounter green spaces in their communities?
As Philadelphians, we're blessed with so many unique green spaces, from our city squares, to Fairmount Park, community gardens, the Schuylkill trails, the new Viaduct Green - and so many more.
These are some of the last places in our community where you can go to just exist - without the pressure or expectation of spending money. That's special, and something worth supporting.
This week and throughout the summer season, do what you can to keep our parks clean! This can be as informal as picking up litter you see on your walk, to volunteering your time for longer-term efforts. However you contribute, every little bit matters and makes a difference.
Ps. We're proud partners of the city + @philaparkandrec, and help keep both #foodwaste and greens (like weeds) out of landfills. Then, we compost all that, and return it to the parks! ♻️ #circularityispossible
Special shout out to @thespringgardens_phl for serving as a hub for our bike pickup in the Spring Garden neighborhood!

Anonstories oferuje doskonałe rozwiązanie do ukrywania swojej tożsamości.
