No budget doesn’t mean no vision.
It means intention. 🤡

Since the beginning, Draft001 has initiated, commissioned, produced, edited, and curated original imagery by building projects from the ground up and without financial backing, but with structure, direction, and editorial clarity.

We have led and facilitated the creation of hundreds of images by working closely with photographers, stylists, designers, makeup artists, hairstylists, nail artists, set designers, light designers, and image-makers of all kinds from early conversations and references, to storyboards, production, editing, selection, and final publication. To date, more than 250 original images have been made through this process, driven by commitment, and a shared belief in storytelling.

While doing so, we have continuously questioned the methodologies of our own industry: how images are fabricated, who they serve, how value is assigned, and what it means to produce visually without reproducing the same systems. Draft001 exists as a space to experiment with different ways of making, selecting, and circulating images. The most exciting part being we are still learning how to unlearn and exist in a very crowded publishing industry and editorial system.

If you want to understand how this translates visually, you’ll have to dig through the books, the bodies of work, and the contributors who shape them.

Draft001 is a creative collective committed to slow production, who believes in shared authorship, and that values editorial processes that prioritise context over speed.
