Chengtao Yi, Standard Eye Chart, 2025
Chengtao Yi‘s installation engages the apparatus of perspective and perception, exposing the institutional logic of vision through the Standard Eye Chart. The work employs the ”tumbling E“ chart, composed of a single letter rotated in different directions, originally designed to test acuity through gesture rather than reading. These ”E“ forms are made into physical objects, arranged and repositioned within natural settings — suspended among trees, aligned along a receding path, and dispersed across layered fields of depth. Placed back into the landscape, the letters operate as material markers of orientation. Their directional openings invite bodily response, transforming measurement into spatial negotiation. The eye chart becomes less a clinical device than a compositional structure, emphasizing perspective, distance, and alignment. In a contemporary world where perception is constantly mediated and ordered, the potentiality of vision risks reduction. Yi questions our ability to see — both literally and metaphorically — when nature becomes “landscape,” and seeing risks becoming mirroring.

Anonstories oferuje doskonałe rozwiązanie do ukrywania swojej tożsamości.
