Shellworks
Packaging that never becomes waste.
Made and unmade by microbes 🌱
Why does it feel so hard to do the right thing?
Your frustration with the status quo is exactly why we are here. Shellworks is proud to be a founding signatory of the UK Packaging Pact by WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Program), sitting alongside major supermarkets, global consumer brands, waste management providers and policymakers.
Together, the pact is focusing on fourgoals:
1. Creating better packaging
2. Scaling reuse and refill
3. Improving infrastructure
4. Harmonising data to drive decisions.
Shellworks is here to help out the first two goals. With Vivomer, our plant-based microbe-grown material, we’re giving these giants the exact tool they need to replace petrochemical plastics for good.
This pact is a 10-year commitment to fixing the system. Follow along as we help build a world without waste.
Special thanks to Thomas Baker, Helen Bird, and Malaika Oyortey of WRAP.

Our goal has always been to prove Vivomer can be a direct replacement for plastics, without compromise.
Last month in the US, we saw this vision in action with @getphils . We got to witness firsthand how our unique home-compostable material is powering a real-world partner brand. It’s already sold out at Whole Foods and now preparing for the next phase and restock. That’s tangible proof that our technology is built for scale and the retail environment!
We couldn’t do this without amazing founders and brands like @getphils who believe in a better future and have a great product to match. Back at a Whole Foods near you shortly…
Made to last, designed to disappear.

All the news about getting rid of plastic from your life can feel like a lot. We built Vivomer so that the burden isn’t on the individuals.
We started in personal care and beauty packaging, and now we’re launching even more to help you swap out plastic for something with no waste, no microplastics, and no toxins.
Stay tuned for what’s to come…

We’re going Wild over this picture of the King being presented with our roll on refills (made from Vivomer) at the Windsor castle circular bioeconomy roundtable. - PS this is NOT an April Fools. @shellworks_

Don’t worry, we’re still here! Just wanted to say thank you for all the support. You made us go viral and it’s been keeping us busy scaling our answer to the plastic crisis: Vivomer.
Thanks to you, we’ve had loads of brands reach out so keep sharing and tagging (it really works!). We can do this together!

Feels like ceramic, glass and silicone, but it’s all Vivomer: the compostable biomaterial that actually works.
After (re)using the dropper, one end-of-life option for Vivomer is composting. Unlike most “compostable” products that require industrial facilities to break down, Vivomer is home-compostable; it only needs healthy soil to safely biodegrade into nutrients. But beyond lab tests and certifications, what actually happens when you toss it in your backyard compost?
This is week 16 of our ongoing Vivomer Dropper home-compost experiment. Back in June, we buried 52 Vivomer droppers in our outdoor composter to track weekly degradation.
Real-world conditions, real-world variations. We’ve observed that surfaces with better soil contact degrade faster – such as the bottle neck, ribbed cap, pipette tip and bottle underside. And as seen in our previous experiments, degradation is slowing down as the UK enters the colder months.

Our solution to plastic is a century-old idea. Made by fermenting soil microbes, Vivomer is a biomaterial that is already replacing plastics. Non-toxic, microplastic-free, biodegradable. All while being functional.
It’s not an alternative; it’s the upgrade.
Why should plastic bottles last forever? What if a bottle could stay strong when you need it... but disappear when you don’t?
This is Vivomer, a biomaterial made by microbes. We’ve tested in the shower, the washing machine, as a coffee cup, and eventually in the compost.
No plastic, no compromise, no waste.
This is Vivomer.
Feeling a little existential dread?
The UN Plastics Treaty fell short – plastics and their toxic chemicals will keep being produced.
That’s why we’re cutting them off at the source with Vivomer: microbe-made, home-compostable, and ready to replace plastic for good.
No plastic. No toxins. No BS.
This is Vivomer.
Anonstories oferuje doskonałe rozwiązanie do ukrywania swojej tożsamości.
