CMPA-BC producers sat down with the BC Conservative Caucus last week to discuss the importance of the BC's production sector and how we can work together to keep it thriving and competitive. Thanks to Darren Giblin (@lionsgatecanada), Sara Blake (@ceromafilms), Brian Hamilton (@omnifilmentertainment) and Brent Chapman (@brentchapmanforsurreysouth), MLA Surrey South, for hosting the conversation!

Yesterday’s CRTC decisions reflect the underlying philosophy of the Online Streaming Act, namely that broadcasters and streaming services that generate significant revenues from Canadian subscribers and viewers must also invest in Canadian programming.

This philosophy has been a cornerstone of federal broadcasting policy for generations and is foundational to Canadian cultural sovereignty.

We are reviewing the decisions in detail, and will work to ensure that they enable Canadian independent producers to continue to make a significant contribution to the production of Canadian programs.

In the three years since her mentorship with @gapcentertainment, Deena Alsaweer has produced close to 10 short films and music videos, and founded @stillgoodfilms, an educational initiative that aims to democratize access to filmmaking.

During her time at GAPC Entertainment, Deena learned the importance of relationship building and collaboration, and how mutual respect and advocacy amongst teammates leads to great results.
