As we look ahead to next week’s run of Postcards from Colaba, it’s as good a time as any to reflect on our final show of 2024, held on December 9th—a special performance for @thequeermuslimproject and their latest writing cohort as part of the Queer Caravan, organized by the @ifiofficiel. This moment felt full circle for us because our very first outing of this play was for TQMP’s Language Is a Queer Thing, as a commission supported by @inbritish.

One of the reasons our play is in verse is that it was meant as an offering to that very first audience of poets from India and the UK. We had little idea then we would go on to perform so many more shows. Having writers in the audience has always made for a special kind of exchange, and this time was no different. The Queer Caravan cohort–@ozkeskinkilic@doucedibondo @lonelydignity @poongodi_mathiarasu @jins_podcast @a.kadir.oezdemir–made up of writers and poets from Europe and India, brought out a beautiful new energy from the performers. The first time we were meant to perform for LIAQT, we couldn’t because Section 144 had been imposed on the city. So this was the first time a cohort from TQMP was able to catch us outdoors, along with their tireless coordinators–@rahmanrafiul @literarycliticism and @rachitasbarak)–who have become dear friends over time.

These photographs, taken by Vivek Venkatraman @vivekstake, capture something of that exchange—the emotions shared between audience and performers that made the evening what it was.

To book for next week’s run, please access the link in my bio. Our ensemble includes @vibingwith_vibh @sahir31 @parul_rana @alistar.bennis @arjuniyrr @anmol.oberoiii @sidhantseth

This past weekend, the very last of 2024, we staged an experimental run of 𝘗𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘎𝘰𝘢, relocating it to Bandra’s historic Ranwar Village, with its distinctive old-world charm. The play was originally commissioned by the @serendipityartsfoundation for last year’s edition of the @serendipityartsfestival, and the run there had been a deeply heartwarming and momentous experience for both the ensemble and the many audiences we encountered.

Stepping into this new locale came with some trepidation, but we were bolstered by the support of our cheerleaders at @gaysifamily. The result? We think we might have found a new home.

Here are some images captured by photographer and longtime friend, @vivekstake.

With @padma_damodaran @sahir31 @parul_rana @vidursethi @i_jai_k @ankypods @arjoonkabirkakkar @sakshijuneja @priyadali @deondemamount

From its earliest pages to its most recent editions, Arthart has traced a quiet yet persistent journey through contemporary cultural thought.

Each issue gathers voices that engage with the everyday, the political, the historical, and the experimental—offering ways of seeing that continue to shift and expand.

Across essays, images, and practices, Arthart builds a space where reflection deepens, dialogue unfolds, and ideas remain in motion.

Swipe through some of the essays that have shaped this journey.

As we gear up for the April shows of 𝘗𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘊𝘰𝘭𝘢𝘣𝘢 in just a couple of days (link to tickets in bio), here’s a glimpse back at our March outings.

These weren’t the public performances we regularly conduct. The enterprising @watertrailz from @bitslaw_edu brought along a contingent of 40-odd law students and faculty members, who stayed with us through two long shows across as many days, watching closely, staying present, and really leaning into the experience.

What stories lie hidden in the streets we think we know?

Students of the Ethnographies of Justice elective at #BITSLawSchool, guided by Prof. (Dr.) Rahela Khorakiwala, Assistant Professor of Practice, Law, along with faculty and TRFs, recently experienced #PostcardsFromColaba, an immersive walking performance that reimagines one of Mumbai’s most historic neighbourhoods.

Through short theatrical vignettes staged along the route, familiar streets transformed into spaces of memory, discovery, and quiet resistance, revealing layers of history and human experience that rarely make it into guidebooks.

For a course that interrogates how justice, identity, and social life are lived and experienced in everyday spaces, this experience was a powerful reminder that cities themselves are texts, complex, contested, and full of voices waiting to be heard.

A bouquet of thirteen plays was Nataka Hubba’s offering at BLR Hubba 2026. Curating this selection was a genuine privilege, and I’m deeply grateful to every group that came on board and trusted the process. What emerged was not just a programme, but a conversation across forms, politics, regions, and temperaments.

Aasakta Kalamanch, Pune ~ 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘕𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳
Akhoka Theatre ~ 𝘈𝘣𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘊𝘳𝘺
Alienstar Collective ~ 𝘚𝘦𝘪𝘻𝘦 𝘏𝘦𝘳: 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘯
The Gathered ~ 𝘈𝘷𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘩𝘦
Guild of the Goat & Rishika Kaushik ~ 𝘚𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘉𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨
Kalakshetra Manipur ~ 𝘗𝘪 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘥𝘰𝘪
Kavya Ganesh Company ~ 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥-𝘜𝘱 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘺𝘢𝘮
Kumar Muniandy ~ 𝘚𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘥 𝘊𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘴 𝘘𝘶𝘦𝘦𝘳
Mantavya Collective ~ 𝘈𝘮𝘣 𝘋𝘢 𝘉𝘰𝘰𝘵𝘢
Natanakairali & Bhoomija Arts Trust ~ 𝘔𝘳𝘤𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘬𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘬𝘢𝘮
Peace Projects & Social Manch ~ 𝘚𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘓𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘛𝘳𝘶𝘵𝘩
Samta Shikhar & Subhashim Goswami ~ 𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘏𝘢𝘭𝘧
Yalgaar Sanskrutik Manch & Nalanda Art Studio ~ 𝘒𝘢𝘷𝘢𝘯: 𝘈𝘯 𝘈𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘥𝘬𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘖𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘢

They say it takes a village, but this festival took a whole town. Immense thanks to @ravichandar_v for the steady compass, @_aroneha_ and @iambharavi for being absolute pillars, the fellow curators for constant solidarity, the tireless venue managers and their fearless volunteer armies, including Nataka’s own @say_samarth and @sahanaaaadev, and every other team quietly holding the line to make BLR Hubba 2026 what it became.

At Nataka Hubba, Bengaluru witnessed theatre across time.

Mrichakkatikam - a canonical classic. Bhoomija - known for fearless experimentation.
An amphitheatre transformed by light, movement, and emotion.
A story retold through classical dance and contemporary theatre.
A striking feminist portrayal of Vasant Sena that stayed long after the final bow.

Not just a performance. An experience that reshapes how we see Indian theatre.

We’re looking forward to bringing Parna Pethe’s 𝘚𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘓𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘛𝘳𝘶𝘵𝘩 to @nataka.blr.Subba at @sabhablr, Bengaluru on January 22.

Written by Shanta Gokhale and performed as a sequence of four striking monologues, the play explores how truth fractures under the weight of history, ideology, and everyday survival. Set across different political moments, from the Dreyfus Affair in France to contemporary South Asia, it traces how women navigate propaganda, fear, complicity, and resignation in a world edging toward moral collapse.

Here are a few excerpts from my recent review of the production. You can read the full piece via the QR code on the last slide.

Less than a week to go for BLR Hubba @blrhubba to begin. I’ve been a part of the team, and curated the programme of plays for Nataka Hubba @nataka.blr.hubba, alongside the committed fellow curators featured on these pages in @newindianexpress.

Small correction to my quote in the article — what I actually said was: “I’m interested in letting these differences sit side by side in the same room. At Hubba, that room is a city.” Looking forward to heading to Bengaluru soon and being part of a festival that genuinely celebrates the breadth, contradictions, and vitality of contemporary performance across the city.

Anonstories oferuje doskonałe rozwiązanie do ukrywania swojej tożsamości.
