EncroChat sparked my interest in private communications and SIM-based networks. I bought these blank SIMs over a year ago, and that curiosity eventually led me into mesh networking.
These mesh devices were sent to me by @heltec_automation and they run a software called Meshtastic enabling OFF-GRID communication without cellular networks or the internet.
So is @themeshtastic like EncroChat? No.
EncroChat relied on existing cellular infrastructure, whereas Meshtastic is a decentralized, off-grid mesh network that uses radio devices instead of SIM cards, removing that dependency entirely by allowing users to run their own peer-to-peer network.
