Faculty of Science and Engineering Manchester Metropolitan University

A landmark building acting as a living lab, showcasing science and engineering and connecting research and education with the wider city region, maximising collaboration with the tech-focused business community. The building includes research and teaching spaces, alongside laboratories, workshops, and computing facilities, significantly enhancing the University’s research capabilities, STEM education, and knowledge exchange.
 
It is organised with the three lower floors creating a continuous flow of spaces that connect all undergraduate learning areas. Balconies and open decks internally articulate a single learning community that is highly visible through a three-storey ‘shop window’. Above, a four-storey ‘research box’ accommodates academic workspace, benefiting from natural daylight and views of the city with research labs to the south, all arranged around a central atrium.
 
We were commissioned to develop the design and deliver the building from RIBA Stage 4.

What a fantastic evening spent exploring Manchester.

We were joined by clients and collaborators for a walking tour of the city centre, led by the ever-enlightening @jschotours (Jonathan Schofield). He has a real gift for lifting your gaze beyond street level, sharing the stories and subtle details that reveal how the city truly works.

The route took in several of our projects, each contributing in its own way to Manchester’s rich and ever-evolving story, from the Corn Exchange through to DMR in St Ann’s Square and Yotel Deansgate, before arriving at Barbirolli Square.

We wrapped up the evening with drinks and pizzas at @society.mcr , chatting away until late. Thank you to everyone who joined us.

What a fantastic evening spent exploring Manchester.

We were joined by clients and collaborators for a walking tour of the city centre, led by the ever-enlightening @jschotours (Jonathan Schofield). He has a real gift for lifting your gaze beyond street level, sharing the stories and subtle details that reveal how the city truly works.

Look Back Series: Merseyway Innovation Centre

Located within the existing Merseyway Shopping Centre the Innovation Centre offers flexible and co-working accommodation for start-up and SME’s. Facilities include a business lounge, incubator type business units, ‘grow-on’ spaces for expanding companies, along with meeting rooms, kitchens, welfare spaces, and end of journey facilities. The space is accessed via a new entrance with a significant intervention within the existing fabric to create an attractive and welcoming new high street frontage.
