HAPPY WORLD FOOTBALL DAY!
At its best, football is a reminder of something very simple: rules matter, teamwork matters, and no one wins alone.
That is true on the pitch. And it is true far beyond it.
At the United Nations, Member States come together every day to negotiate, disagree, cooperate, and keep working toward shared solutions.
But for the World Football Day we also came together to play.
To underline that in football, as in diplomacy, we are always better together.
Where do you see yourself in the future?
In 2024, Member States answered that question together through the Pact for the Future.
Now comes the follow-through of the Pact: turning commitments into action, from UN reform to financing for development and measuring progress beyond GDP.
Curious to take a look at one of the key moments in choosing the next UN Secretary-General?
The interactive dialogues are a major milestone - and understanding where they fit in the overall selection process.
This video breaks down the steps, the purpose, and the path ahead.
Migration is inherently human.
At the opening of the 2nd International Migration Review Forum, the UN General Assembly reviewed progress on the Global Compact for Migration, and how cooperation can make migration safer, better managed, and more beneficial for all.

From India 🇮🇳 to China 🇨🇳!
Two journeys with the same goal: upholding the UN Charter and the international order together.
Especially in these challenging times, the UN 🇺🇳 needs strong partners like these two, to speak openly about the pressures on our international order — and on what it takes to keep the UN at its centre.
In both countries, I, as President of the UN General Assembly, had the chance to meet the UN country team. They are the teams who translates the resolutions we negotiate in New York to actions on the ground, from climate action and gender equality to access to education and more.
This makes them essential in delivering for the people we serve.

The Interactive Dialogues with candidates for the position of UN Secretary-General started today!
These dialogues provide 193 Member States and civil society the opportunity to ask each candidate questions on their leadership and vision for the UN, alongside the three pillars of the institution. The dialogues mark a critical step in the process of selecting and appointing the next Secretary-General.
The choice for Secretary-General will shape the direction of the world’s unique multilateral organisation and demonstrate whether the United Nations truly represents the more than 8 billion people around the world, half of whom are women and girls.
It will send a powerful message about what the United Nations stands for and how it intends to address the challenges of today, especially given the fact that in our interconnected world, what unfolds in one region echoes across all others.
In times of unprecedented political and financial pressure on the United Nations, strong, principled and effective leadership is essential to ensure that the UN Charter’s promise to serve the people is upheld.
That is one of the toughest jobs in the world, but it is also one of the most important, as the next Secretary-General will shape the future of this institution and, in her or his role as the strongest defender of the UN Charter, that of the international rules-based order.
The UN is about to choose its next Secretary-General — and things are heating up 🔥
On 21 and 22 April, candidates will take part in “interactive dialogues” — a three-hour Q&A where Member States and civil society can ask the tough questions.
This role matters. The Secretary-General is not only the head of the UN and the world’s top diplomat – she or he also represents all 8 billion of us, defending the UN Charter and leading on peace, development, human rights.
Because accountability starts with answering to Member States and civil society.
Watch it live on UN Web TV — and be part of the conversation.
The war in the Middle East is felt around the world.
After the Security Council failed to support efforts to ensure safe and unimpeded passage through the Strait of Hormuz, the General Assembly held a meeting under the so-called Veto Initiative. To underline that the debate does not end with a veto.
As the past weeks have made clear, in our interconnected world there is nothing theoretical about compliance with international law. What unfolds in one region echoes across all others, with deep and multifaceted consequences.
Knowing what a difficult, fragmented time we live in, and fully aware of what might yet come, we should not reduce diplomatic engagement but rather seize the opportunity to build on the initial, fragile ceasefire.
There is a need to refocus our efforts on diplomacy, on negotiations, and on the peaceful settlement of all disputes in the Middle East, in full accordance with the UN Charter and international law.
There is nothing abstract about international law as the consequences of a crises anywhere affect us everywhere.
After two vetoes in the Security Council, the General Assembly held a special session on the situation in the Middle East.
