We’re excited to welcome Ivan Marušić Klif @i_m_klif as our next guest at Filodrammatica, presenting a brand-new multi-channel video installation from 28 May to 18 June 📺

❗ On the opening day – Thursday, 28 May – join us for a public talk with Klif in the main hall of Filodrammatica at 7 PM, moderated by Tereza Teklić from @kontejner_org, co-producer of the installation. The exhibition opening follows at 8 PM!

The installation brings together 48 black-and-white screens salvaged from old video intercom systems. While cathode-ray tubes have long been part of Klif’s artistic practice, this marks the first time he has worked with this specific type of monitor: small, flat screens with imperfect, distorted, and occasionally unstable images. It is precisely within these irregularities that the artist recognises their unique value.

One of the key figures of Croatia’s experimental media art scene, Ivan Marušić Klif graduated from the School of Audio Engineering in Amsterdam in 1994. His practice spans kinetic, light, and video installations, alongside performance, sound, and music for theatre, film, television, and musical productions. His work has been exhibited and performed across Europe, Asia, and the United States, earning numerous awards including the Vladimir Nazor Award for Best Exhibition (2012), the Audience Award at T-HTnagrada@msu.hr (2007, 2012), and First Prize at the 26th Youth Salon (2001).

Presented as a computational re-imagining of Michelangelo’s 𝘓𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘑𝘶𝘥𝘨𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 fresco that covers the Sistine Chapel’s altar wall, 𝙄𝙐𝘿𝙄𝘾𝙄𝙐𝙈 consists of a towering computer graphics painting projected in a darkened space of worship, accompanied by a soundtrack composed from machine learning-generated text and audio.

Druga ovogodišnja izložba Galerije 90-60-90 ostvarena je u suradnji s Muzejom betinske drvene brodogradnje @betinamuseum , a predstavlja rad Igora Eškinje, “La decouverte de la pourpre / Otkriće purpura”.

Uz otvorenje izložbe, u suradnji s udrugom Drugo more @drugomore održat će se i diskurzivni program kojeg će moderirati Davor Mišković, pod nazivom “Boja purpura”.

Iz predgovora izdvajamo:
Purpur, jedan od najcjenjenijih pigmenata antičkoga svijeta, dobiva se iz izlučevine morskog puža volka (Hexaplex trunculus). Kemijski proces njegove transformacije – od bezbojne ili blijede tekućine do intenzivne ljubičaste nijanse pod utjecajem svjetlosti i zraka – svjedoči o složenoj interakciji prirodnih uvjeta i ljudske intervencije. Povijesno gledano, proizvodnja purpura zahtijevala je goleme količine sirovine, pri čemu su tisuće puževa bile potrebne za dobivanje male količine pigmenta. Ljušture, kao nusprodukt tog procesa, ostajale su marginalizirani, gotovo nevidljivi ostatak jedne iznimno vrijedne proizvodnje.

U radu Otkriće purpura Eškinja usmjerava pažnju upravo na taj zanemareni segment materijalnog procesa. Umjesto reprezentacije same boje – njezine vizualne ili simboličke raskoši – umjetnik se fokusira na ono što joj prethodi i što je omogućuje: materijalne ostatke, tragove i dokumentaciju. Instalacija je oblikovana poput istraživačkog ili laboratorijskog stola. Fotografije, uzorci i prateća dokumentacija ne funkcioniraju samo kao ilustracija, nego kao epistemološki alati – sredstva putem kojih se rekonstruira proces i propituje način na koji znanje nastaje i na koji način se prezentira.
