Whatever you avoid as a parent doesn’t get swept under the rug it gets woven into the fibers of your children. The conversations you refuse to have. The heartbreaks you never processed. The abandonment you normalized. The anger you silenced instead of healed.
Children don’t just inherit your eye color. They inherit your coping patterns. They inherit your unspoken pain. They inherit the emotional climate of your nervous system. When you don’t heal the betrayal, they grow up tolerating betrayal. When you don’t heal the abandonment, they grow up chasing unavailable love. When you don’t heal the shame, they grow up performing for worth.
That’s how pathology becomes generational. Not because anyone intended harm. But because unexamined pain becomes legacy. Healing is not a luxury. It’s not selfish. It’s not optional if you want something different for your bloodline.
Your work is not just about you. It’s about interrupting cycles. It’s about shifting patterns. It’s about giving your children a nervous system that feels safe to live in. Heal so your children don’t have to recover from what you refused to face. The cycle stops where the healing begins.

Suicide is a very dark place. And while many people label it as “selfish,” what’s often more selfish is the judgment placed on someone who is drowning in a level of pain you’ve never had to survive.
You don’t wake up one day and casually arrive at suicidal thoughts. You get there through layers of depression. Through self-hate that went unchecked. Through isolation that became normal. Through processing heartbreak, trauma, disappointment, and shame alone for far too long.
That depth of darkness is not attention-seeking. It’s not weakness. It’s not manipulation. It’s untreated pain. It’s a nervous system exhausted from surviving. It’s a mind that has convinced itself it is a burden. And instead of judgment, what’s required is compassion. Instead of whispers, what’s required is conversation. Instead of shame, what’s required is support.
Depression that severe is serious. Isolation that deep is dangerous. Self-hatred that loud must be interrupted with love and intervention. If you’ve ever been in that space you are not crazy. You are not dramatic. You are not beyond repair.
And if you know someone who seems “fine,” check again. Ask deeper. Listen longer. Stay present. Darkness thrives in silence. Healing begins when someone feels seen.
If you are struggling right now, please reach out to someone you trust or contact 988 in the U.S. for immediate support. You do not have to process this alone. 💛

In this episode of In Session with Dr. Bryant, Enid bravely confronts what many families refuse to name. Generational curses. Dysfunctional patterns. Abandonment running rampant through her bloodline.
When abandonment is normalized in a family, it doesn’t just disappear it echoes. It shows up in who you choose. It shows up in what you tolerate. It shows up in how long you stay.
Enid opens up about battling depression, suicidal ideations, heartbreak, and deep disappointment not realizing that the little girl inside of her was still bleeding from wounds she never got to process.
What broke my heart the most? She didn’t even know that little girl was crying for help until we slowed down long enough to hear her. This is what happens when trauma goes unexamined. You don’t date from your standards. You date from your wounds. And until you heal the abandonment, you will keep choosing people who reinforce it.
Doc Squad, healing isn’t about blaming your family. It’s about breaking what they didn’t have the tools to fix. If you’ve ever felt like you keep repeating patterns you swore you’d never live out this episode is for you.
The root matters. The childhood matters. The little girl still matters. Watch. Reflect. Heal.

Being a man in the streets and being a man in a relationship are two different roles entirely.
In the streets, especially for those of us raised in the inner city, survival mode is the default. You’re taught to stay guarded. Don’t flinch. Don’t fold. Don’t show too much. Every move is calculated. Every emotion is controlled. Vulnerability can cost you.
But in a relationship? That armor is supposed to come off. A real relationship is the one place a man should feel safe enough to let his guard down. To speak about what weighs on him. To process emotions he was never taught how to name. Because truth is, many men were trained to survive not to feel.
And when a man finally chooses to be vulnerable, it’s not weakness. It’s courage. It’s unlearning years of conditioning. It’s trusting someone enough to show the parts of him that had to stay hidden.
Men have emotions too. Sometimes they’re harder to process because they were never given the tools. That doesn’t make them incapable it makes them human.

Why does love sometimes feel like war?
Because when your heart gets romantically involved and you are in survival mode, it doesn’t just open it scans for danger. When you’re living in survival mode; abandonment, betrayal, inconsistency, emotional neglect, your nervous system doesn’t know the difference between a real threat and a perceived one. It only knows protection. 🛡️
So what happens? You get triggered. You shift into defense. Your tone changes. Your body tightens. Your partner feels it and their nervous system responds. Now two wounded survival systems are trying to love each other. That’s how intimacy turns into inflammation. That’s how connection turns into combat. That’s how trauma bonds get mistaken for passion. And if children are watching? They’re not just witnessing arguments they’re studying regulation, conflict, attachment, and safety. They’re building their blueprint for love. Unhealed survival responses don’t disappear in relationships they get activated in them.
So how do we break the cycle?
• Learn your triggers before you weaponize them
• Pause before reacting
• Name what you feel instead of projecting it
• Choose regulation over retaliation
• Heal the part of you that still feels unsafe
Love isn’t supposed to feel like a battlefield. But if you never left survival mode, peace can feel unfamiliar.
Doc Squad… Have you ever realized you were fighting your partner when you were actually fighting your past?
Let’s talk about it ⬇️

Discipline isn’t just about what you choose it’s about what you refuse to choose. It’s having the obedience to walk away from what’s familiar, even when it feels comfortable. To not pick the same red flags just because they feel like home. To recognize that what’s familiar has been dysfunctional and decide that “normal” isn’t good enough anymore.
Choosing the opposite can feel terrifying. It’s unknown. It’s uncomfortable. There are no guarantees. But if the known has only given you pain, cycles, and disappointment the unknown can only be a step forward.
We either stay loyal to our patterns, or we stay loyal to our growth. Do the unfamiliar. Break the cycle. Choose different even before you see the proof. ✨

When two people enter a relationship in survival mode, it’s not love it’s war. Survival mindset doesn’t disarm, it defends. It anticipates attack. It keeps score. It protects at all costs. And when both people are guarded, reactive, and bracing for impact intimacy never stands a chance.
You can’t feel safe with someone who doesn’t feel safe within themselves. And anyone living in survival mode isn’t safe internally they’re fighting ghosts, old wounds, and past betrayals in the present moment.
We don’t give people what we hope to have. We give them who we are and what we have. If all we have to offer is survival then a war zone is the only environment we know how to create. Healing isn’t optional if you want healthy love. You can’t build peace with a nervous system trained for battle.

A mother can love her son deeply. She can nurture him, protect him, discipline him, pray for him, and pour into him everything a woman has to give. But a mother cannot teach a boy how to be a man. She cannot reflect manhood to him because she is not a man.
This isn’t an attack on mothers. This is the truth about roles. Only a man can teach a boy the male necessities required to navigate the world as a man how to regulate male emotion, how to carry responsibility, how to lead without ego, how to manage aggression, how to operate with discipline, restraint, and accountability in a world that will judge him differently because he is male.
This is why fathers matter. Not just present but hands on. Not just providers but teachers. Not just biologically involved but emotionally engaged. When fathers are absent, boys don’t stop needing manhood they just learn it from the streets, the internet, or survival. And survival is not the same as healthy masculinity. We don’t heal families by pretending one role can replace the other. We heal them by telling the truth and restoring what was missing.

In this episode of In Session with Dr. Bryant, we have a necessary conversation about what happens when trauma eclipses access to the tools every boy needs to become a grounded, emotionally equipped man.
When a child grows up without guidance, without healthy examples of manhood, and without exposure to emotional literacy, survival becomes the teacher. And survival teaches efficiency, defense, hyper vigilance, and dominance but not intimacy, regulation, or relationship.
Te Money shares his story of growing up in gang life, entering prison as a teenager, being raised by a single mother, and navigating manhood without a man to model it. We unpack how fatherlessness doesn’t just create absence it creates gaps. Gaps in identity. Gaps in emotional regulation. Gaps in how a man learns to lead, love, and relate.
This episode explores how men can survive the streets yet struggle in relationships not because they don’t care, but because no one ever handed them the tools. And when trauma is louder than teaching, survival becomes mistaken for strength.
This is a conversation about accountability and compassion. About naming the damage without excusing the harm. And about what it really takes to unlearn survival so healing, partnership, and purpose can finally take root.

Emotional intelligence and trauma can’t coexist.
When you’re in a trauma response, you’re in low functionality. Your nervous system is dysregulated. Your emotions are running the show. You can’t be regulated and unregulated at the same time. You can’t respond intelligently when your body is in survival mode.
Emotional intelligence is the ability to regulate emotions, to pause, to choose a response not react from fear, pain, or past wounds. It’s the ability to act from the present, not be controlled or consumed by unresolved trauma. This is why healing matters. Not to suppress emotions but to regain healthy choice.
