Revisiting the Rare Space Garden at RHS Chelsea

As the Chelsea Flower Show and Dementia Action Week coincide, we’re looking back at a very special garden from 2023.

The National Brain Appeal’s Rare Space Garden, generously sponsored by Project Giving Back, was designed by Charlie Hawkes in collaboration with members of Rare Dementia Support.

The garden went on to become triple award-winning, recognised for the way it created a thoughtful space shaped around the experiences of people living with rare dementias.

The original design now sits at Exbury Gardens in Hampshire with the kind permission of Marcus and Kate Agius.

Looking ahead, The National Brain Appeal’s 'Rare Space' garden will soon be reimagined at The Hilary and Galen Weston Rare Dementia Support Centre, where it will continue to provide a space for connection, reflection and support, tailored to those living with rare dementias.
