Looking back to last month and reflecting on the Second Annual Reelworld Ally Award Luncheon Fundraiser.

It was a wonderful afternoon that brought together screen industry leaders, partners, alums, and supporters to celebrate this year’s recipient, Reynolds Mastin, President and CEO of the @the_cmpa.

The afternoon was a great reminder of the role that sustained allyship plays in building a more equitable Canadian screen sector and what it means to move from support in principle to support in practice.

Thank you to all sponsors, attendees and donors. The funds raised through your support help Reelworld expand access, visibility, and opportunity for Black, Indigenous, Asian, South Asian, and racialized Canadian creators.

If you were not able to attend, you can still support this work by donating to the Reelworld Foundation or joining us at upcoming events, including the 2026 Reelworld Film Festival+Summit.

The Reelworld community is deeply saddened by the passing of Reza Sameni.

"From 2019 to 2023, Reza served as a dedicated Reelworld Film Festival Programmer and played a crucial role in shaping our festival lineups. His passion for cinema, thoughtful curation, and commitment to supporting emerging voices left a lasting impact on our community," says Founder and Executive Director, Tonya Williams.

As fellow programmers, Aisha Evelyna and Marina Hanna expressed:

"Reza had impeccable taste. As a curator, he used his keen eye to champion filmmakers on the cusp of something special. He took the responsibility of platforming ideas, stories, and people seriously—and that care stays with us.

During our time together, we were driven by a shared urgency to create space for underrepresented filmmakers. In a moment when the world felt like it was burning, that urgency became fuel—to keep going, together, for something we believed in.

Reza was central to the strides we made. Calm and kind in demeanour, but deeply passionate in spirit.

There is a certain sheen to this industry—the glitz and glam of it—but its progress is built on people like Reza, the ones who quietly set the stage. An unsung hero whose impact will be felt for years to come.

Rest in peace, exalted."

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Reza Sameni during this time.

Canadian film isn’t one voice, it’s a chorus. And today, those stories take centre stage, reminding us this industry is alive, evolving, and ours. 🇨🇦🎥

At Reelworld, we celebrate by sharing the work of filmmakers across the country and continuing to create space for diverse voices, unapologetically. We continue to champion bold and diverse Canadian voices, celebrating the storytellers who continue to shape and redefine the future of Canadian cinema.

Today, we watch. We celebrate. Check out the Canadian films our staff is excited about right now and tell us what your favourite Canadian film is! 📺️

A recap from the 2026 Reelworld Ally Award Luncheon Fundraiser celebrating this year’s recipient, @the_cmpa President and CEO Reynolds Mastin ✨

Some awards celebrate status. This one celebrates what people do with their power.

The Reelworld Ally Award Luncheon is a reminder that industry change does not happen because people say the right things in the room.
It happens when leaders make space, fund opportunity, and back diverse talent with action.

This year, Reelworld is honoring Reynolds Mastin, President and CEO of the CMPA, for leadership in advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and access in Canada’s screen sector.

FULL ARTICLE ON BCC or the bio!

And that matters.
Because Black and racially diverse creators do not just need applause.
They need pathways.
Mentorship.
Paid opportunities.
Access to decision-makers.
A real chance to build sustainable careers.

That is why this event matters beyond the luncheon itself.

What does meaningful allyship in the creative industries look like to you?

Save this as a reminder that access changes lives.

At this year’s Reelworld Ally Award Luncheon, allyship will be felt not just in conversation—but also in art.

We’re honoured to welcome Lillian Allen (@lillianallendubpoet), Toronto’s Poet Laureate, acclaimed dub poet, and two-time Juno Award winner, for a live reading. A foremother of Canadian poetry, Lillian’s work blends politically charged, reggae-infused dub with themes of resistance, love, and transformation—shaping both Canada’s cultural and literary landscape for decades.

Her presence reminds us: storytelling isn’t limited to one medium. When film, TV, poetry, and music unite, so does allyship.

This is what it looks like to be in a room where art, industry, and community intersect.

April 10 | 11:30 AM – 3 PM

With the announcement of the 2026 Canadian Screen Award nominations, we’re proud to celebrate a group of Reelworld alumni and Reelworld award recipients whose work continues to resonate across the industry, on screen, behind the camera, and across disciplines. 📺🎞️

To view a full list of CSA-nominated Reelworld Alumni and Award Recipients, read our latest blog post by visiting reelworld.ca/blog

Featured in this graphic are Gayle Ye(@gayle_ye), Leighton Alexander Williams(@livingwithlaw), Sugith Varughese(@sugithvarughese), Supinder Wraich(@supinder_w), Sarah Podemski(@sarahpodemski), Caleb Chan(@calebchanmusic), Gabriela Osio Vanden (@sanguinuss), and Cashmere Downey(@cazhblanche).

Every nomination tells a bigger story. Years of ideas, creative risks, and collaborations that actually mean something. Seeing these names recognized on a national stage hits different. It reflects the people and communities behind the work, not just the work itself.

To this year’s nominees, CONGRATULATIONS!!

Your ground-breaking work is being seen, resonating with audiences, and it’s helping shape what Canadian film and TV looks like right now and where it’s headed. We’re so proud to have been a small part of your journey, and we can’t wait to see what you do next!!👏🏽🎉

View Instagram Stories in Secret

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
