director @directedbybix wanted to lean into a dreamy, meditative version of the forest — we shot this during a brief break of heavy rains in february, and bix wanted the environment to feel like a deep, textured part of the visual world. we tried to add as much romantic character to the look as we could with vintage anamorphics and zooms — we used a RED komodo with cineovision anamorphics and a vintage angenieux 25-250. for filtration, i used @revarcine “PA tears”, which added halation and diffusion but kept the halation to a more neutral/cool tone.

director @directedbybix wanted to lean into a dreamy, meditative version of the forest — we shot this during a brief break of heavy rains in february, and bix wanted the environment to feel like a deep, textured part of the visual world. we tried to add as much romantic character to the look as we could with vintage anamorphics and zooms — we used a RED komodo with cineovision anamorphics and a vintage angenieux 25-250. for filtration, i used @revarcine “PA tears”, which added halation and diffusion but kept the halation to a more neutral/cool tone.

Stills from “Over the Line”, a seven-minute film shot in 2022 about authority, loneliness, and how it’s always 420 somewhere.

@seanconroy is a legend in comedy and it was a privilege to shoot his first short — he’s always one step ahead in the writing, the characters, and jokes. When prepping for this, we discussed the balance between naturalism and a more stylized approach; Sean wanted this encounter to feel textured and real, yet didn’t want the visuals to distract from performance or story. I timed my coverage to work with the space and sun, not against it — strategically shooting out certain angles so we were supplementing (not fighting) the natural light in our exterior location.
