The term “alpine divorce” comes from an 1893 short story about a husband who plans to push his wife off a mountain in the Alps. But in 2026, it has become a Me Too–style hashtag used in Instagram explainer videos and first-person confessionals where women talk about being left in canyons with twisted ankles and injured knees or abandoned on hikes in foreign countries. The comments on these posts are filled with a chorus of women repeating, “This happened to me.”

The discourse caught a second wind in early April when a man was convicted of attempted manslaughter after he tried to push his wife off a cliff in Hawaii, stab her with a syringe, and then bash in her head with a rock. Some have expressed shock that such a nightmarish trend even exists and is prevalent enough to have a name. (“tf y’all mean this is COMMON?!!” wrote one commenter.) But the reality is, the person most likely to harm a woman isn’t a wild animal or a stranger lurking in the woods; it’s the person sleeping next to them at night.

At the link in bio, The Cut reports on the horrifying phenomenon of women being ditched by men in the outdoors and speaks with a few of the many women who’ve experienced an “alpine divorce” firsthand.

Five years ago, the average WNBA game would have around 300,000 viewers; now, viewership routinely passes 1 million. Joe Tsai and Clara Wu Tsai, the billionaires who acquired the New York Liberty in 2019, helped foment this interest in the team locally. They set off on a soup-to-nuts remodel: new star players in Sabrina Ionescu, Jonquel Jones, and Breanna Stewart; a brand makeover, complete with Ellie the Elephant; and, most crucially, a rescue mission to move the team from the Westchester County Center to Brooklyn. It worked.

In 2024, after 28 years, one of the league’s original franchises won its first championship, at home, in a nail-biter of a game five. But the 2025 season couldn’t replicate that magic, and the reigning champs failed to make it out of the playoffs’ first round. Coach Sandy Brondello’s contract was not renewed, and Chris DeMarco came over from the NBA, where he had spent 14 years with the Golden State Warriors.

New Yorkers have made their expectations for him no secret. DeMarco is now frequently recognized on the street and told how to do his job. “A lot of fans will stop me and say, ‘Better win a championship,’” he acknowledges. “I just love the passion.”

As the WNBA season starts again, can DeMarco lead the Liberty to another trophy? Read @jazzloon’s full interview with him at the link in our bio.

“Even as a child, pain and distance were being passed down to me like an inheritance,” Siraad Dirshe writes. “I tried my best to convince myself that I could outsmart, outwork, and out-therapize these aches and pains. That after a certain age, one just suddenly didn’t need their mother anymore.”

@sdirshe spent much of her adult life pushing aside the idea of becoming a mother. Then, she decided to try mushrooms. “I left behind the version who was too scared to name the things she wanted, like love. This was my most tender transformation yet.” At the link in bio, Dirshe writes about how psychedelics unearthed feelings about her own complicated relationship to her mother, and allowed her to see that she needed — and deserved — to become one herself.

View Instagram Stories in Secret

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
