here's some info from the press text, from my good friend Ian at the label;

Press Release:

I usually try to write these releases in a distinct “label voice,” but in this case that felt impossible. This one is simply too personal for that. It is hard to believe that, in the more than seventeen-year history of Home Normal, this marks the first release by my dear old friend Tim Martin, under his maps and diagrams moniker. As Tim mentions later in this press release, our little sister label, Nomadic Kids Republic released two seminal works by him — 'Lights Will Call On You' and 'The Town Beneath The Sea' — back in 2011. I had already been a fan of Tim’s music for some years before that, and what began as an invitation to release on NKR grew into one of the most natural and rewarding creative relationships I’ve ever had.
That period remains a significant one for me personally, and Tim’s music was very much a part of it. Over the years, that connection deepened through collaboration, friendship, and a shared sense of experimentation and irreverent fun in sound.

Tim later became involved in a long-term project that would turn into the Black Elk Quartet, bringing his gift for deep melody, electronic wizardry, and a welcome sense of lightness to the music. Following on from that, our work together as Ouvala developed into its own richly rewarding avenue for collaboration, through which we’ve quietly released a number of recordings and explored tape decay, delay, synth manipulation, and modular mischief in all its forms. It remains some of the most melodic, playful, and quietly ear-wormy music I’ve ever been part of. 1/2

I have always had a fascination and creative curiosity with Kankyō Ongaku and the amazing artists that have developed these landscapes over the years - I’m constantly discovering the magical and instrumental spaces they create, it’s always something I get drawn back to, to bring me a sense of calm and a distraction from the everyday noise.

Issued on dual-format, limited edition tape and mini double CD featuring; individually hand-bound and hand-cut collage CD wallets - made from vintage materials, washi tape and papers, a special print edition of four unique designs, printed, hand-creased and assembled using khadi rag stock for the [tape] o-cards. Each CD & tape issue is hand-numbered and packed inside glassine bags, tape copies are packed inside a clear eco bag & limited to 50 copies [HS59/T]

Wil Bolton’s "margins" seamlessly focuses on finely balanced tonal studies built from his use of sustained harmonics, soft-edged melodies, and field recordings from around East London — "margins" unfolds gradually, with subtle shifts in timbre and melodic development, which takes the listener on a journey through these musical interpretations. Wil demonstrates a refined emphasis of his craft here with two long-form pieces and the result is immersive and measured.

Ouvala (Ian Hawgood & Tim Diagram) work with denser layers, with an emphasis on texture. "shapes continue to exist" draws on slow-building drones and dissonance that evolve through an accumulation of erosion. Tones blur and reconfigure over time, creating subtle resonance and convergence — rather than resolving, the compositions drift between states, focusing on gradual changes in density, saturation, and spatial depth.
