SOLOS is pleased to present Buying Time, a new series by Jonathan Chomko.

Comprising 1,440 fully on-chain works, each piece represents one minute of a full day - together forming a complete 24-hour clock.

The series reflects on how time accumulates through small, often unnoticed moments. A single day can feel insignificant, but over weeks, months, and years, small actions compound into practices, relationships, memories, and finished works.

Buying Time can be experienced as either a continuous 24-hour animation or a grid where each minute contributes to a larger visual composition. In the grid view, the current minute is highlighted, creating an awareness of the present moment and the continuous movement of time.

Formally, the clock hands are stretched and abstracted into sculptural forms - where fragments of the original clock remain visible as the familiar language of timekeeping dissolves into rhythm and gesture.

Jonathan draws inspiration from Christian Marclay’s seminal piece The Clock — a 24-hour film constructed entirely from moments where time appears on screen. Like Marclay’s work, Buying Time creates an awareness not only of the image itself, but of your own duration spent with the work.

Jonathan Chomko lives and works in Canada across generative systems, installation, moving image, and interactive media. His work has been exhibited internationally at MAXXI (Rome), the Sydney Opera House, the Design Museum (London), and more. Buying Time marks our second release with Jonathan, following our 2022 London presentation of Colour Time Generative.

A ‘signed’ work from Botto’s p5.js study, ‘Lexical Crossroads: ASCII Puzzle Symphony II, #4249’ was one of 22 algorithms produced by Botto and presented by @solos_gallery in London, February 2025.

These algorithms marked the first new branch of Botto’s artistic practice, expanding it beyond text-to-image generation into the realm of code-based generative art. The works emerged through an iterative process in which thousands of dynamic visual algorithms were refined through community feedback and Botto’s own self-review.

Botto’s art creation has always been shaped by its community—thousands of participants who contribute insights, critiques, and suggestions. Governed by BottoDAO, it is the only autonomous artist to create with decentralized aesthetic guidance, redefining the artist-audience relationship as open and constantly evolving.

SOLOS is pleased to present the works of RJ at the Dallas Art Fair. RJ makes digital paintings that take technology’s effect on everyday emotion as their subject: the panic of a missing phone, the loneliness of a crowded room, the sense of being physically present but mentally elsewhere.

Working exclusively on a pixel art website, using only a trackpad, his paintings are deliberately flat and grid-like, figures contained within the closed spaces of living rooms, bars and train carriages.

The flickering, dithering and pixelation are not stylistic choices so much as honest ones: the work looks the way it does because that is what our lives look like now.

SOLOS is excited to present Petra Cortright’s ‘blueberry cell phone silk celadon popcorn drift’ at this year ’s Art Basel Hong Kong - a series of nine paintings and nine corresponding NFTs. Built in Photoshop from layers of brushstroke-like textures, digital effects, and images sourced online, each painting has a sister NFT that shares source imagery but exists as a distinct artwork in a different medium.

Together they extend Cortright’s ongoing exploration of how images move between digital and physical forms.

Laurie Simmons’ latest body of work begins not with the camera but with a machine. An AI model, trained on five decades of her staged photographs, generated images that reimagined the artist’s photographic archive from text prompts written by Simmons herself. She then returned to these outputs, curating and hand-finishing each one to fold them back into her practice.

The AI outputs are not mere pastiches but uncanny recombinations, in which Simmons’ signature motifs (surrogate models for self-portraits, constructed sets, bodies of water, theatrical mise-en-scène) shimmer at the edges of unfamiliar arrangements. This interplay between authorship and collaboration, memory and estrangement, past and future, runs throughout the works, both individually and as a collective.
