Do trains make waves? Because Boston Lodge Engineering Works just did, receiving the 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 for 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 at the 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 dedicated to rewarding best practice in reuse, restoration and sustaining heritage of railway, and associated structures.
Part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Boston Lodge Works is located less than a mile from Porthmadog in North Wales housing rare railway machinery from the 1830s-1900s. It contributed to the development of the Welsh slate industry, enabling the transport of local Welsh slate to the world.
At Boston Lodge Works, our team worked on the conservation and restoration of 11 Grade 2 listed buildings, and assisted in creating a programme of placements, workshops andvolunteering opportunities addressing the skills gap in the industrial heritage sector.
We are so proud of this project and the team who contributed to its success.

We are so thrilled (and still in shock) to announce the Buttermarket was awarded the AJ Retrofit of the Year 2025 and was also the winner in the Conservation & Historic under £10 million category.
We are so grateful to @architectsjournal and the judges for their words:
‘In some ways, it looks as though nothing has been done to it but it’s clear that there is considerable care and ingenuity at work in showing how a historic structure can be brought back from the brink’.
The Buttermarket is a heritage-led regeneration of five Grade II-listed buildings around a central courtyard in Redruth, Cornwall, part of the Redruth Conservation Area and the Cornwall and West Devon Mining World Heritage Site.
Now home to flexible workspaces, food units, and a first-floor gallery, the Buttermarket fosters economic and cultural activity through accessible, affordable spaces for food entrepreneurs, artists, small businesses, and community events—offering a sustainable model for community-led regeneration in the heart of Redruth.
Incredibly honoured to have worked alongside:

The Buttermarket has been shortlisted for the @riba awards!
Located within the Redruth conservation Area and World Heritage Site in Cornwall, the Grade II historic cluster was envisioned as a testing ground for local business to grow and experiment. A bricolage of reclaimed bricks, reused columns and recycled glass, it is now a place to celebrate the intangible Cornish culture of gathering, festivals and making.
We are so honoured to be shortlisted alongside inspiring projects across the South West.
Congratulations to everyone who made this project a beautiful success.

We were commissioned by @historicengland to undertake research investigating how England’s historic buildings could be adapted to reduce the risk of overheating due to climate change through passive architectural measures.
UKCP18 climate projections predict the UK to have Mediterranean-like climate, with higher temperatures and more intense rainfall, making it a critical time to direct efforts in making historic buildings climate resilient.
Join Heritage Researcher Vanessa and Architect @jennyboddington next Tuesday, 3rd of February webinar as they present their findings in Historic England Technical Tuesday webinar.

We were commissioned by @cornwallcouncil to document the process of the regeneration of the Buttermarket, compiled in a Case Study analysing the application of a Conservation-led Sustainability Strategy, using the Buttermarket as a model for sustainable adaptation, showing how historic buildings can remain relevant, low-carbon and socially valuable.
First off, the numbers:
Calculated Upfront embodied carbon is 267.41 kg CO₂/m² — comfortably exceeding LETI’s 2030 targets of <300kg CO₂/m²
Operational carbon predicted 45% reduction, from 70 → 38 kg CO₂/m²
But here’s a confession: we weren’t designing the Buttermarket with carbon figures front of mind. We weren’t exactly chasing numbers. And yet, when the embodied and operational carbon were finally calculated, the results didn’t come as a shock.
When we sat down to critically examine our approach to sustainability while writing this case study it revealed to us that our approach is largely intuitive. The idea that sustainable design is scary maths, a problem to be solved by a fixed formula, can be unnecessarily restrictive. For us, low-carbon design comes from making reasonable, thoughtful material choices throughout the design and construction phases, guided by respect for the environment and climate awareness.

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
