Memorial Day is being observed across the United States, including in Newport, Rhode Island, where thousands of fallen U.S. service members were honored.

Authorities are urgently trying to stop an overheated, pressured and bulging tank filled with a toxic chemical from exploding in Orange County, California. ABC News' Jaclyn Lee reports.

Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick and Tom Suozzi, the bipartisan co-chairs of the House Problem Solvers Caucus, called on Sunday for Congress to block the implementation of the Justice Department’s $1.8 billion "anti-weaponization fund."
Fitzpatrick, a Republican, and Democrat Suozzi introduced a bill that would prevent the fund from disbursing any payments.
“It’s really up to the Republicans to join with the Democrats. Everybody knows this is wrong,” Suozzi said. “That's the purpose of the checks and balances in government, so that one branch of government does something stupid or wrong, the other branch holds them accountable.”

“[Americans] don't want to see a $1.8 billion fund to pay people that beat up cops … but it's our job in the Congress and the Senate and the House to hold the executive branch accountable.”

The Secret Service said officers shot and killed an armed man who opened fire at a White House checkpoint.
It was just weeks ago when we ducked and covered at the White House Correspondents Dinner as we heard gunshots ring out.
Last night a man approached a Security Checkpoint just outside the White House, took a gun out of a bag and fired shots at officers, according to Secret Service. Officers fired back, killing the individual. Secret Service personnel el were not injured but a bystander was struck by gunfire.
Officials say the suspect has a history of incidents involving the White House.
I was preparing to go live for World News Tonight when I heard the flurry of shots ring out. We ducked and covered, then Secret Service yelled for us to sprint to the White House Press Briefing room, where we were locked down.
