We will be running two (shorter than previously) parallel 6-week residences Nov-Dec, one by open call and a second ring-fenced for @gpyouthforum members.

As part of this residency we are offering:
-A desk with chair and wall space
-£30 towards materials
-2 workshops with studio artists in animation/ceramics/illustration/digital design/painting/sewing/costume making (depending on interest and availability)
-1-1s chats around creative practice and professional development
-Access to the communal space and tea making facilities
In exchange we ask for:
-A commitment of a minimum 5 hours spent in the studio every week (although more time spent is welcome)
-Participation in a small sharing event at the end of the residency
-Completion of a short feedback form
Apply if:
*You want focused time to try something out / you aren’t able to access a studio at the moment due to financial constraints / you’ve had a career break, are just starting out, or another factor that would make having a space at the studios beneficial and unavailable otherwise at this time
*You want to be around other artists and a variety of creative practices (please note it’s not always a busy studio, but you are likely to bump into some artists working there)
*There is an exploratory / conceptualaspect to your work or an active curiosity that could benefit from conversations / time. This residency is not suitable for commercial artists
*You don’t mind being in an open working space
Process:
Step 1 - DM us here or email artshellcontact@gmail.com to arrange a visit or ask any questions
Step 2 - Visit us between October 12th and 23rd at an agreed time
Step 3 -If still interested after the visit please fill in a short form (if you find forms difficult we can help)

*Find our whether you have a space or not by Thursday October 30th 9pm
*November 5th 2025 start of studio residency
*December 17th 2025 end of studio residency

SHY CARNIVAL
Syllabus of Darkness
Chapter Arts Centre 2023
Carnival exists many different ways across space and time allover the world…
Perhaps Carnival has also been eroded as individual and collective divinations, gatherings of sacred-profane elementals, human-animal, body- spirit…
celebrating defiance of imposed visible punitive order.
Many elements of Carnival feel about the unseen… or behind the scenes.
There seems to be a mourning of the absence of the unseen made incarnate.
As Mary Anne says, “The pendulum swings”
My glimpse or whispers of carnival have not been dressed in sequins.
I have also been wondering about the force fields of Shyness as a protective aura,
lining oneself with a soft defiance
a necessary apparel in a hyper luminous society effacing the delicacy of our inner circadian skins.
We wear shyness to step out of line…to refuse to fake it to make it…to kindle an ancient flame.
We gathered with the discarded
We rose with the Loathsome Lady
Someone said recently
If we could not see we would have to drop our visual predudices and feel.
What if there is no word for Love?
There was a question which travelled the land on horseback…no answer.
The Loathsome lady was bold enough to come out of the forest and propose in the full glory of her grotesque potential.
Terry mentioned she was graceful and sweetly scented.
Gawain revealed through his kindness and honour her beauty which was only visible by night.
Questions of freedom, fulfilment… choice
laid to rest in the nuptial bed
Bud stepped in to play Lady Ragnell
Mary Anne played Gawain.
We relinquished the sick, the drip, the bling
Tenderly adorned ourselves with old news and discarded parcels of non essentials.
We took a moment for boat pilgrims and other outsiders on their way to a misheard misnamed promised land.
We loitered through on a Sea Shanti
Serenaded by a genteel mottled crew
Domestic Violins, Bob Evans, Mary Anne Roberts and Wahda.
Our kindled flames ablaze
We sat with friends strangers
and threw in our wear and tear into the flames.
Many Thanks to
Terry Chinn Custodian of Shy Ongoings.

This year we will be opening community art studios in Grangetown.
Grateful to @wcvacymru for their Landfill Disposals Tax Communities grant that will pay for:
*Mentored and subsidised studio space
*Solar panels
*Bike rack
*Soundproofing and insulation downstairs
*Bat box, window boxes and bench outside
The studios aim to fulfil a need / gap in Cardiff to provide good quality, low cost, stable, shared art studio space, which currently does not exist at all in Grangetown and which is limited in the wider area. This funding will help make them more sustainable.

The @bottegaproject #saladcircle with #edibleveg grown and planted by @cardiff_salad is up on #chuchillway for the next month or so.
Bottega Project seeks to develop:
“A whole system which is designed across multiple levels to nurture resource and allow its citizens to flourish.
A system nested in larger systems in such a way as to feed valuable information to the broader society in which it is embedded, but which can protect its resources from the worst effects of predatory capital and profit seeking interests which have little care for our present or future potentials.
In short, the Bottega project is a deeply functional, resilient and intelligent community, co-created by its constituents with a compassionate and collaborative culture at its core.”
The site is due to open this afternoon and will be open every day from 10am till 8pm for the duration of the school holidays.

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
Keep track of Instagram updates discreetly while protecting your privacy and staying anonymous.
View profiles and photos anonymously with ease using the Private Profile Viewer.
This free tool allows you to view Instagram Stories anonymously, ensuring your activity remains hidden from the story uploader.
Anonstories lets users view Instagram stories without alerting the creator.
