We had recently learned that a new Ghostbusters animated series and also an animated movie were in the works, and today brings an update on the series project from Netflix.

The streamer has announced today that their upcoming Ghostbusters animated television series will premiere sometime in 2027. The series is UNTITLED at this time, however.

Netflix previews, “Hailing from Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation, the high end animated series based on the beloved Ghostbusters IP will debut exclusively on Netflix in 2027.”

We’ve also learned that Dan Aykroyd has officially boarded the project as Executive Producer. The upcoming animated series will also be executive produced by Jason Reitman.

The full list of executive producers for Netflix’s Ghostbusters animated series includes Ben Hibon, Elliott Kalan, Jason Reitman, Gil Kenan, Amie Karp, and Dan Aykroyd.

The future of the live action Ghostbusters franchise is uncertain in the wake of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, but these animated projects should keep the property alive and well.

Plot details for the Ghostbusters animated movie and series are under wraps. For the series, Elliott Kalan has boarded the project as writer, showrunner, and executive producer.

The Ghostbusters franchise has of course made a mark on the world of animation in the past, with “The Real Ghostbusters” in the 1980s and “Extreme Ghostbusters” in the 1990s.

Hocus Pocus 3 is officially in early development at Disney with Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy set to reprise their roles as the Sanderson Sisters.

Deadline reports that there are plans for a theatrical release this time around, following Hocus Pocus 2‘s record-setting Disney+ premiere in 2022.

Hocus Pocus 3 was originally announced in 2023 by former President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production Sean Bailey, only to be left in limbo.

At that time, Hocus Pocus 2 director Anne Fletcher and writer Jen D’Angelo were attached to reunite on the threequel. It’s unknown at this time if they’re still attached.

“They sent a script, and a lot of it was brilliant,” Middler commented back in October. “So I got very excited, and now we’re sort of trying to figure out what it is and where it’s going to be and how much it’s going to cost and all those logistical things.”

According to Deadline’s sources, “The halt came down to salary negotiations with Midler, Parker, and Najimy, all of which have since been worked out.”

1993’s Hocus Pocus sees three 17th-century witches — Winifred (Midler), Sarah (Parker), and Mary (Najimy) — resurrected on Halloween to steal the life essence from the children of Salem, Massachusetts.

The witches returned 29 years later in Hocus Pocus 2, with three high-school students tasked with stopping the ravenous sisters from wreaking a new kind of havoc on Salem before dawn on All Hallows’ Eve.

NEW TRAILER - Norwegian creature feature KRAKEN will be unleashed June 12.

Unnatural behavior in wild salmon, followed by inexplicable deaths in Norway’s deepest fjord, points to the mythical Kraken.

The ancient, multi-armed monster has awakened, ready to crush EVERYTHING and EVERYONE in its path.

Pål Øie (The Tunnel) directs from a script by Vilde Eide, Kjersti Jelen Rasmussen, and Natasha Arthur.

Samuel Goldwyn Films will release the Kraken in Select Theaters and on Digital June 12.

We had reported way back in 2017 that Roger Corman was producing a new Japanese take on the Piranha franchise titled Summer of Piranha (alternatively titled Piranha JPN and Teeth of the Piranha), but the project never did end up seeing the light of day. Almost 10 years after that original announce, Bloody Disgusting has learned that the film is swimming back to life.

It’s also been given a brand new title: Piranha: Pacific Nightmare.

The story involves a scientist creating a new breed of Piranha/Tuna hybrid that could live in saltwater as a new food source but the DNA mutates into a deadly new species.

Piranha: Pacific Nightmare will be directed by Stens Christensen (Raging Angels), Bloody Disgusting has also learned. Though he passed away back in 2024, Roger Corman will remain credited as an executive producer on the upcoming Piranha franchise installment.

The team is currently running a fundraising campaign over in Japan through the crowdfunding website Camp-Fire, with the project 37% funded at the time of this article being written.

It’s interesting to note that Christopher Lloyd, who starred in Alexandre Aja’s Piranha 3D and that film’s sequel, is currently attached to appear in Piranha: Pacific Nightmare.

IX Film Group Inc. and Red Beans Pictures are behind the upcoming horror film.

Piranha: Pacific Nightmare will be the sixth installment in the franchise. The original Piranha, released in 1978, was directed by Joe Dante, and it was followed up with James Cameron’s Piranha 2: The Spawning in 1981 and a made-for-TV remake in 1995. The original was then remade as Piranha 3D in 2010, which itself spawned sequel Piranha 3DD in 2012.

We are sad to learn this morning that Jonathan Tiersten, best known to horror fans for his role in the original Sleepaway Camp, has passed away at the age of 60 years old.

TMZ reports, “Tiersten passed away last week at his home in New Jersey, according to his brother, William Tiersten. The medical examiner is investigating Jonathan’s cause of death.”

Jonathan Tiersten played Angela’s (Felissa Rose) cousin Ricky in the original 1980s slasher classic, a role he later reprised in the 2008 sequel Return to Sleepaway Camp.

Sleepaway Camp marked the teenage Tiersten’s feature film debut, and he returned to the horror genre decades later in a handful of films including The Perfect House, Redemption, Blood Reservoir, The House That Wept Blood, Terror Tales, Lake of Shadows, Toilet Zombie Baby Strikes Back, Last American Horror Show: Volume II, and the slasher Time’s Up.

In addition to his acting work, Jonathan Tiersten was also an accomplished musician. His IMDb bio states, “As a singer/songwriter, Tiersten made his presence felt on the Greenwich Village folk-rock/roots rock circuit in the late 1980s and early 1990s as one-half of the acoustic duo The Magic Box. Tiersten (whose first solo album, Heaven, was released in 1998) also has been a member of the alternative funk-rock band Gaphiltaphunk, and now leads the band TEN TIERS, whose debut album, Don’s Club Tavern: Part 1, was released in 2006.”

Announced last month, Osgood Perkins and Nicolas Cage are reuniting for a Longlegs follow-up movie, which we’ll be referring to as Longlegs 2 until an official title is announced.

Longlegs 2 will release in theaters January 14, 2028 from Paramount!

Nicolas Cage will star and produce the film, with Osgood Perkins directing.

The new Longlegs film is said to be “set in the Longlegs universe,” so don’t expect a traditional sequel. Plot details, however, are under wraps at this time, but it is confirmed that Perkins has written the script and will return to the director’s chair as well as produce.

Also producing are Brian Kavanaugh Jones of Range Media, Chris Ferguson, Perkins’ partner at their company Phobos, and Dave Caplan of C2, which financed the initial movie.

In Longlegs, “FBI Agent Lee Harker (Maika Monroe) is a gifted new recruit assigned to the unsolved case of an elusive serial killer (Cage). As the case takes complex turns, unearthing evidence of the occult, Harker discovers a personal connection to the merciless killer and must race against time to stop him before he claims the lives of another family.”

Released by NEON, Longlegs made $127 million at the worldwide box office back in 2024, with the film’s mysterious marketing campaign credited for hooking audiences.

As you may recall, the appearance of Nicolas Cage was kept completely secret until the film was released, allowing audiences to experience his twisted villain before even seeing so much as a still image of his nightmarish look. It’s unclear how Cage’s Longlegs will be able to return for a follow-up movie, but again, we’re not expecting a sequel in the traditional sense.
