Eine Band, die sich nach einer Kurzgeschichte des grossen mexikanischen Schriftstellers Juan Rulfo benennt, lässt natürlich aufhorchen. Ob der Klang seiner so kargen wie atmosphärischen Prosa in der Musik dieser jungen Band aus Mexico City widerhallt? Rulfos Grenzüberschreitungen ins Metaphysische, Unvorhersehbare haben sich DILES QUE NO ME MATEN jedenfalls bereits zur Geheimformel gemacht. Unmöglich, diese Band in eine, zwei oder auch drei Schubladen zu stecken. Und ja, wie bei Rulfo geht es auch in ihren Songs darum, das Berechenbare auszuhebeln. Hypnotische Krautrock-Improvisationen wechseln sich ab mit geflüsterten Spoken Word Passagen und zartem Kammerpop. Ausflüge in den Jazz und Post-Punk sind geschenkt. Das 2019 in Mexico City gegründete Quintett gehört inzwischen zu den aufregendsten Indie-Acts Lateinamerikas. Im Juni erscheint ihr neues Album „Escrito en Agua“ – was so viel bedeutet wie „Ins Wasser geschrieben“. Diles que no me maten eilt der Ruf voraus, eine grandiose Live-Band zu sein und auf der Bühne noch ein paar Schritte weiterzugehen, auch dorthin, wo Unerklärliches passiert.

Muss man diesen Mann noch vorstellen? GEORDIE GREEP!! Ehemaliger Sänger und Gitarrist von Black Midi aus dem Dunstkreis des legendären Londoner Musikclubs The Windmill und seit ein paar Jahren unter eigenem Namen unterwegs. Spätestens seit seinem grandiosen Song „Holy, Holy“ samt noch grandioserem Bowling-Video dürfte er allen bekannt sein, die sich mit neuer Pop-Musik beschäftigen. Ein unverschämtes Genie, dieser Greeper! 26 Jahre alt und Frank Sinatra, Carlos Santana und John Travolta in einer Action Figure vereint und verinnerlicht. Seine Kartentricks lässt er mit einer Lässigkeit aus dem Ärmel schütteln, dass man die Kieferlade nicht hochkrieg. Fusion-Jazz, Prog-Rock, Post-Punk, oft rasend schnell gespielt, mit irrwitzigen Beats und Breaks unterlegt, tanzbar nur für Fortgeschrittene, und trotzdem lässt einen diese Musik zappeln. Nur logisch, nannte Greep sein Debüt-Album „The New Sound“ – denn etwas Vergleichbares will einem nicht einfallen. Dass er neben Led Zeppelin, Frank Zappa oder Miles Davis auch noch Bach und Strawinsky zu seinen prägenden Einflüssen zählt, macht diesen Mann und seine Musik nur noch mysteriöser.

Das hügelige Vermont im Nordosten der USA, wo GREG FREEMAN aufgewachsen ist und noch immer lebt, ist nicht das Epizentrum von Country, aber die amerikanische Roots-Musik ist tief in dieser Landschaft mit ihren alten Dörfern, Feldern, Seen und Wäldern verankert. Freeman, der vor drei Jahren sein erstes Album veröffentlichte, trägt mit seinem countryfizierten Indie-Rock die Melancholie des Südens im Herzen. Grossartig, wie etwa die Pedal Steel Gitarre noch dann über allem schwebt, wenn die Band in entfesselte Noise-Passagen abdriftet, bevor sie auf den folkigen Trampelpfad der Gemächlichkeit zurückfindet. Alt-Country-Helden wie MJ Lenderman, Son Volt oder Ryan Adams kommen einem in den Sinn, und natürlich die epischen Gitarrenjams von Neil Young & Crazy Horse. Auf Freemans neuem Album „Burnover“ hat sich der Stilfächer noch mehr geöffnet, vom galoppierenden Rock-Kracher über den schunkelnden den Bartresen-Banjo-Blues bis hin zum perfekten Pop-Song ist hier alles drauf. „Gallic Shrug“ ist schon jetzt unser Anwärter für den Song des Sommers 26, den Fahrtwind und die Sonne des Südens in Gesicht
