Telling you all about Quite Quiet #2: Part 2, where I sing the praises of the one and only Doc Smith

The next edition of Quite Quiet is on Thursday 4th June at @portindependent and will feature sets from @mattievant @eddiedoyle_music and @95theses95

I've had to do a little switcheroo with the line-up of the next @quitequietsunderland on accounts of @izzypricemusic getting a new job. Fortunately @eddiedoyle_music has stepped in and I think she'll knock everyone's socks off. Very excited to hear @mattievant in this kind of setting and over the moon that my awesome pal @95theses95 is going to come and play. It's been too long and he's the bomb.

Last night's inaugural @quitequietsunderland was an excellent indicator that:
1) this idea is really going to work (in no small part thanks to @portindependent)
2) @_thislittlebird is a total babe and I'm so glad I get to (we) make culture with her
3) @georgiaruyimusic is an astonishing writer and musician and if, as a listener, you're prepared to lean in instead of leaning back, then there's no limit to the joy and wonder you'll find in her music
and 4) my reluctance to perform solo in front of an audience is entirely justified. Lesson learned. 😂

Just one more day until the first of our regular Quite Quiet shows. We'll be kicking off pretty soon after the doors open at 7 so get down early if you can.

Tickets for May's Quite Quiet show are going to sell out quite quickly so don't wait around if you'd like to come along.

In an effort to take some responsibility, I'm going to play a solo set at the inaugural @quitequietsunderland. I'll try to get my discomfort out of the way aharpish so I can get back to what I actually enjoy - plugging in microphones and listening to @georgiaruyimusic and @_thislittlebird. I'm half-joking - I do like loads of my songs - I just don't know if I can play them. This will probably sell out quite soon so do head to the Quite Quiet page of you want to grab a ticket. Huge thanks to @portindependent for being the hosts with the mosts.

Over the last couple of years, I've occasionally whinged to myself (and to @mslbrewis and @eddiescottsongs) about the lack of venues/events in Sunderland where the young, mostly solo, singer-songwriters we work with at @wemakeculture can play original music to an appreciative audience. Well, I've now decided to stop whinging and, in classic Brewis style, do it myself.

So starting in May, and hosted generously by our pals at @portindependent, you can expect a monthly all-ages show of original acoustic/solo/stripped-down music - some established local artists, some emerging or under-heard local artists. Heck, I might even play myself if I can overcome being chronically sick of my own shtick. Follow @quitequietsunderland for gig announcements.

When we get rolling properly the events will happen on the first Thursday of each month, but to start with, on Friday 10th April, we have a special album celebration show for @avaandthefates and her brilliant and bonkers album Steve
