NEW YEAR, NO BOOZE, SIX MONTHS

2026 is a make or break year for me. On June 30th 2025 I served my last day as Design Director at Time Out, leaving with a fat redundancy package (thank you NUJ) that gave me some breathing room. Fortunately I’d been planning my exit for about 6 months prior, so within a week myself and two other creatives had officially launched @nwincreativestudio with a name, website, logo, branding and a creative deck that was already out in the world and being shared with PR’s.

We’ve had a great start but the next 6 months will determine whether this is a proper company or just a side project. The redundo cash will have been burned through by then, so to give myself and No Worries If Not the best chance for success, I’m abstaining from the booze.

This will be the longest sober stint I’ve attempted by far. The last was 2 months on doctors orders, while we were trying for our second kid Vivienne. I almost made it, but it was cursed by a lads ski trip I had booked slap bang in the middle. The constant jaeger-bombing going on around me was too tempting, and by night three the bar staff cut me off after I tried to pay for a drink with my ski pass 🤣🙃🙄.

Anyway, let’s see how this one goes. Hoping a clean and clear mind will give me the laser focus I need. Wish me luck and see you down the pub with a nonny. Happy New Year.
