Back home in Dublin and finally sharing a little update on what I’ve been building these past months.

Last Friday we launched Vintage Blad a project that started from wanting to create something that could support other dream projects, artists, and stories that deserve to be seen and archived.

In this video I speak a little about why I started it, the vision behind the limited edition series, and how the first release is supporting artist @safa_miq, who recently came from Gaza. There’s so much more to come from her work and journey, and I’m really honoured to be able to platform it through Vintage Blad.

روحت لدبلن وأخيراً حبيت أشارك شوية تحديثات عن المشروع اللي كنت نخدم عليه الفترة اللي فاتت

الجمعة اللي فاتت أطلقنا Vintage Blad مشروع بدأ من فكرة إني نبي نصنع مساحة تساعد مشاريع وأحلام ثانية إنها تكبر وتوصل للناس، وتدعم الفنانين والقصص اللي تستحق تنشاف وتنحفظ.

في الفيديو هذا نحكي شوية على علاش بديت المشروع، وفكرة سلسلة الإصدارات المحدودة، وكيف أول إصدار قاعد يدعم الفنانة @safa_miq اللي وصلت مؤخراً من غزة. ولسه في هلبة شغل وقصص جاية منها، وممتنة إني نقدر نشارك رحلتها من خلال Vintage Blad.

Since being back in Dublin, life has been moving so fast. I’ve been so busy settling back in that I haven’t really created anything, probably the longest I’ve gone without shooting or printing. Missing the thrill of it all, the process, the movement, the feeling of creating. But slowly, bit by bit, the new studio is coming together, and maybe with it, a new chapter too.

من بعد ما روحت لدبلن، الحياة ماشية بسرعة وجد. انشغلت بالاستقرار لدرجة إني حتى ما اشتغلتش على أي شي، ويمكن هذي أطول فترة نمر بيها بدون تصوير أو طباعة. مشتاقتة للهفّة، للحركة، ولإحساس الإبداع بكل تفاصيله. لكن الحمدلله، الاستوديو الجديد قاعد يجهز شوي شوي، ويمكن معاه بداية جديدة

The behind the scenes of the pinhole camera

I feel incredibly lucky to have set up a darkroom in my grandfather’s home. What started as a small idea became something much deeper, a moment of connection across generations.
I got to show the great-grandchildren how to make a pinhole camera, and to witness the magic of the darkroom process, something unfamiliar in a world shaped by digital immediacy. Watching their amazement as a simple box captured an image, and as a blank sheet slowly transformed into a photograph in the chemicals… it felt like introducing them to a different way of seeing.
More than anything, it became a way to bond, through curiosity, patience, and shared wonder.

كنت محظوظة جداً إني قدرت أجهّز غرفة تحميض (دارك روم) في بيت جدي. فكرة بسيطة، لكنها تحولت لشيء أعمق, لحظة تواصل حقيقية بين أجيال مختلفة.
ورّيت الأحفاد كيف نصنع كاميرا الثقب (pinhole)، وخليتهم يكتشفوا سحر التحميض, شيء ما يعرفوه في عالم صار كله رقمي وسريع. كان مدهش نشوف انبهارهم كيف علبة بسيطة تقدر تلتقط صورة، وكيف ورقة فاضية تتحول تدريجياً لصورة داخل المواد الكيميائية.
أكثر شيء كان جميل، إنه صار وسيلة للتقارب, من خلال الفضول، والصبر، والدهشة اللي شاركناها مع بعض.

This document is a historical record from the Libyan struggle against the Italian occupation.

It lists the names of Libyans who were arrested, tried, and sentenced by Italian colonial authorities due to their involvement in resistance.

Among the names recorded is Salem Ben Mussa - my great-grandfather’s uncle, who also raised my grandfather.

The document provides structured details including names, place of residence, charges, court rulings, and sentencing, offering insight into how resistance was documented and prosecuted during this period.

Many individuals listed here do not appear in widely published histories. Documents like this serve as primary archival evidence of everyday resistance and the broader impact of colonial rule on Libyan communities.

This copy was shared with me by my uncle.

هذا المستند هو سجل تاريخي يوثّق جهاد الليبيين ضد الاستعمار الإيطالي.

يتضمن قائمة بأسماء ليبيين تم اعتقالهم ومحاكمتهم والحكم عليهم من قبل السلطات الاستعمارية الإيطالية بسبب مشاركتهم في المقاومة.

ومن بين الأسماء الواردة: سالم بن موسى - عم جدّي عبد المطلوب بن موسى، والد جدّي علي بن موسى، والذي قام أيضًا بتربية جدّي.

يحتوي المستند على تفاصيل منظمة تشمل الأسماء، محل الإقامة، التهم، الأحكام، وتواريخها، مما يقدّم نظرة على كيفية توثيق ومحاكمة المقاومة خلال تلك الفترة.

الكثير من الأسماء الواردة هنا لا تظهر في المصادر التاريخية المتداولة، مما يجعل مثل هذه الوثائق مصدرًا أرشيفيًا مهمًا لفهم المقاومة اليومية وتأثير الاستعمار على المجتمع الليبي.

Getting to know family through photographs.
This is my granddad, Abdulsalem Buisir. I only met him once, and the one vivid memory I have is him taking me to the little corner shop beside his home.
Most of what I know about him comes from stories, from relatives, neighbours, and even strangers who once knew him or worked with him. From those stories, I had always imagined him as a very serious man, someone disciplined and always on time.
But when my cousin showed me this photograph of him, smiling the way he is here, it revealed another side of him I had never imagined.
Sometimes photographs give us pieces of people we never got the chance to fully know.
Allah yerḥamk ya jiddi. May Allah forgive him, widen his grave, fill it with light, and grant him the highest place in Jannah. Ameen.

التعرّف على العائلة من خلال الصور.
هذا جدي عبدالسلام بوصير. لم ألتقِ به إلا مرة واحدة، وأتذكر بوضوح عندما أخذني إلى الدكنالقريبة من بيته.
معظم ما أعرفه عنه جاء من القصص، من العائلة، ومن الجيران، وحتى من أشخاص غرباء كانوا يعرفونه أو عملوا معه. ومن خلال تلك القصص كنت دائماً أتصوره رجلاً جاداً، منضبطاً، ودقيقاً في مواعيده.
لكن عندما أرتني ابنة عمي هذه الصورة له وهو يبتسم هكذا، أظهرت لي جانباً منه لم أكن أتخيله أبداً.
أحياناً الصور تعطينا فرصة لنتعرّف على أجزاء من أشخاص لم تتح لنا الفرصة أن نعرفهم بالكامل.
اللهم ارحم جدي عبدالسلام بوصير، واغفر له، ونوّر قبره، واجعل قبره روضة من رياض الجنة، وارفع درجته في الفردوس الأعلى. آمين.

It’s already been a month since I left. Soon I’ll be announcing my next destination.

مرّ شهر بالفعل منذ أن غادرت، وسأعلن قريباً عن محطتي القادمة.

The Benghazi Cathedral, photographed the way I remember it from the postcards that hung in our home growing up.
But being here is more than architecture. It carries memory.
This area always reminds me of my uncle, Allah yerhamah,standing by the sea, fishing, throwing “julatina” into the water to draw the fish in.
Walking around Benghazi isn’t just about revisiting places.
It’s revisiting people.
It’s remembering laughter.
It’s feeling absence.
This city holds beauty... and it holds loss.

كاتدرائية بنغازي, صورتها اليوم مثل ما كنت نشوفها في البوست كاردات المعلّقة في بيتنا وأنا صغيرة.
لكن المكان مش مجرد مبنى… هو ذاكرة.
المنطقة دي تذكرني دايمًا بعمي، الله يرحمه , وهو واقف عند البحر يصيد، ويرمي “جلاتينا” في الميّه باش يلم السمك.
المشي في بنغازي مش بس رجوع للأماكن،
هو رجوع لناس،
لضحكات،
ولغياب نحسّوه في كل زاوية.
المدينة هذي فيها جمال…
وفيها فقدان.

When families migrate, we miss the moments that were meant to be lived together. And when we return home, we don’t go to tourist attractions… we go to catch up on what we lost. We return to the places that held our absence, and sometimes, we stand in front of that absence itself.
The photos we take are not just memories, they are a way to let reality sink in, to process what happened, and to allow ourselves to feel.
Here I am visiting my aunt. She always told me, “Come to Benghazi while I’m alive, not when I’m gone.” And here I am, standing at her grave.
May Allah forgive khalti, have mercy on her soul, expand her grave with light, and grant her the highest place in Jannah.

عندما تهاجر العائلات، نفقد الكثير من اللحظات التي كان يفترض أن نعيشها معًا. وعندما نعود إلى الوطن، لا نبحث عن المعالم السياحية… بل نلحق بما فاتنا. نعود لنزور الأماكن التي غاب عنها حضورنا، لنقف أمام الغياب نفسه.
الصور التي نلتقطها ليست للذكرى فقط، بل لنستوعب ما حدث، لنُثبّت الحقيقة في قلوبنا، ولنسمح لأنفسنا أن نشعر.
هنا أنا أزور خالتي. كانت دائمًا تقول لي: “تعالي إلى بنغازي وانا عايشة، مش بعد ما أنا مشيت.” وها أنا اليوم أقف عند قبرها.
اللهم اغفر لخالتي، وارحمها رحمةً واسعة، واجعل قبرها روضةً من رياض الجنة، ونوّر لها فيه، واجمعني بها في الفردوس الأعلى يا رب.
