Inside the Dutch building that turns your wildest Defender dreams into a reality!

“We never say ‘no’ in the beginning. Our design and engineering team investigate the possibilities, because we think it’s the coolest thing ever to make a customer’s dream come true. That’s our power.” The mantra adopted by Amsterdam-based builders @thelandrovers, who have created some dream-like Defenders, ranging from fully customized mud-lovers to a fully electric variant.

Almost everything is made in Amsterdam, by hand. Painting, upholstery, woodwork, wiring harnesses, CNC-machined and 3D-printed components: all produced on-site. The company even developed its own software to maintain full control over every circuit in every build. The virtually sole exception is the galvanizing of the chassis. Everything else stays in. The result is a vehicle built purely from passion, made from some of the world’s finest materials and ready to be enjoyed to the fullest.

Tour de France for the win!

Vintage watch guru Davide Parmegiani kindly presented his Ferrari 250 GT Competizione Tour de France to us at last weekend’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. What makes the “Tour de France” stand out from other 250 GTs is its more competition-focused design: Scaglietti-built aluminium bodywork, subtle but functional aero tweaks, and details like faired-in headlights and distinctive B-pillar vent louvres that evolved across the series for cooling and performance rather than just styling.

Parmegiani’s Series III car had a strong racing run in 1958–59 with Wolfgang Seidel, scoring multiple wins and big results like second at Pau and fourth at the 12 Hours of Reims, and it’s still highly valued today for how original it remains after decades of racing and restoration.

Follow Classic Driver on YouTube for early access to our Villa d’Este feature film – dropping soon!

These cars stole the show at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2026

If there is a place where the old-world Italian grandezza, that mythical grande bellezza, is still alive, it must be the Grand Hotel Villa d’Este at Lake Como. Still, it was two German cars that claimed gold at last week’s Concorso d’Eleganza.

It’s a bit like Christmas with the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este: Every year, it’s the same setting, the same roast goose and oysters, the same people singing the same carols, the same rites of festivity. But still, we look forward to the annual repetition — and the small variations that will make all the difference. The Grand Hotel Villa d’Este is a true time capsule, a snow globe in which old-money luxury and mid-century Italian elegance are still very much alive: Once you step inside and recognize the Murano glass chandeliers, the big windows with stunning views of the lake, the waiters in their white jackets, delivering Negronis and Club Sandwiches across thick carpets, the modern world disappears — even if it’s just for one fine weekend in May, arguably the most beautiful weekend of the year.

The reason why we return to the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este year after year, to meet the same people and follow the same old concours protocol, are the cars: Every year, the selecting committee brings together an eclectic mix of equally stunning, rarely seen automobiles from all eras and brands, brought to Lake Como from all over the world. This year, the selection stretched from modest pre-war aluminium race cars and luxurious art-deco cruisers to the genre-defining hypercars of the 1990s and early 2000s, reframing the search for automotive beauty and elegance once again for a new edition of the 97-year-old concours.

Will LaFerrari prices keep climbing? 📈

At last weekend’s @mecum_auctions Indy sale, a 2014 Ferrari LaFerrari sold for a new model record: $8,580,000 — up $1.7 million in just two months.
The car in question was a delivery-mileage example with just 56 miles from new: a US-spec car finished in black on black, essentially untouched and showroom fresh.

In our latest market review, @jprathgen breaks down what made this LaFerrari so special — and whether this was a one-off result or a sign that prices are set to rise even further.

The Veyron Prototype

Painted in Pearl and Ice Blue, this Bugatti Veyron “Prototype 5.1” we adored at the the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este is one of just six near-series pre-production cars and played a pivotal role in the development and approval of the Veyron for series production under Volkswagen Group leadership. It was used as a key high-speed test and validation vehicle—especially for aerodynamics, tyre development with Michelin, and stability testing—and was even the car used for major media unveilings and official presentations, making it central to how the Veyron was introduced to the world.

Follow us on YouTube to watch the full feature documentary about the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este which is coming soon.

An orange-tinted weekend where motorsport felt more like art than competition.

@fuoriconcorso Kraftmeister 2026 was never just about the machines themselves, but the atmosphere around them. The people, the sound, the details, the energy suspended somewhere between heritage and excess.

A few days surrounded by beautiful engineering, timeless design and the kind of moments that make you wish weekends lasted forever.

Andrea Zagato explains the class-winning Ferrari 250 GT Zagato

The Ferrari 250 GT Zagato berlinetta was a rare, ultra-light racing-focused variant of Ferrari’s mid-1950s GT platform, coach-built by Zagato with extreme attention to aerodynamics and weight reduction. Its signature “double-bubble” roof and unique faired-in headlights set it apart as the most distinctive of the Zagato 250 GTs, built in very small numbers for competition use.

Chassis 0665 GT — which won the Ferrari class at last weekend’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este — proved its capability immediately in 1957, scoring strong results across major Italian road races and hillclimbs, including the Mille Miglia, and ultimately helping secure a national GT class championship through its blend of agility, endurance, and aerodynamic efficiency.
