Scans have confirmed the Cowboys and Queensland’s worst fears, with Dearden sustaining a syndesmosis injury to his ankle in Friday night’s loss to the Eels in Townsville.⁣

Queensland’s incumbent halfback, Dearden will undergo surgery and will miss six to eight weeks, ruling him out of Origin I on May 27 in Sydney.⁣
