“We chose to write this out in Japanese. A lot of the elements of Control the game are very Japanese fusui/ wabi-sabi, even incorporating elements of Chinese yin/ yang if you will. The game doesn’t overtly say this, but being of Okinawan decent myself, I basically translated it this way in my own head. Jarin and I both take pride in our Asian heritage and this is my homage in a way.
Every single one of us who worked on this song is Asian, and I think it’s super important to point that out.
