From the nightclub to the pulpit 🙏

After struggling for many years with addiction, Stephen from Uganda encountered Jesus powerfully. He began a new journey of faith that led him into church ministry. Today Pastor Stephen leads a thriving church and community ministry that’s releasing hundreds of children from poverty.

"I've learnt that faith without action is dead," he shares. "Compassion has given our church the resources to support children in every way: spiritually, socially, physically, and academically. Their partnership has allowed us to put our faith into action and truly walk alongside these children."
Inspired by Compassion's approach to child development, Pastor Stephen established the Miriam project, an initiative providing local children with food and access to schooling. "With Compassion, I learnt how to mobilise local resources," Stephen reflects.

As a result of this growing local capacity, Stephen’s church is preparing to transition out of its partnership with Compassion, continuing their work independently. Please join us in praying for Pastor Stephen and his church as they step into this next season of caring for their community.

Do you remember being asked, "What do you want to do when you grow up?"

For many children facing extreme poverty, daring to hope in that answer can feel impossible.

At her local Compassion project in Rwanda, Amina was given a book called *My Plan for Tomorrow,* which encouraged her to write her dream for the future. She wrote that she wanted to be a business person.

God had a plan for Amina's life. Today, her social enterprise has changed the lives of over 10,000 women and girls across Rwanda.

Reflecting on her journey, Amina shared "The hope I received is now being passed along”.

Jesus invites us to see the immeasurable value of children.

He made time for them. He welcomed them, honoured them and blessed them. Jesus saw children as deeply important in the Kingdom of God, worthy of love, dignity and care.

May we continue to follow His example and hold close His heart for children and the vulnerable.

Today, Denis’ patients call him the “angel” of the hospital corridors.

As a child growing up in poverty, Denis dreamed of becoming a nurse. Through his local Compassion project, he was awarded a scholarship that helped him continue his education and pursue his dream.

Now, Denis is passing on the same love and compassion he experienced as a boy to every patient he cares for.

When we follow Jesus’ lead and care for children, it sparks a movement of hope and lives are transformed. Young people are equipped to become change-makers in their communities.

At his local Compassion project, Junior has been learning how one small garden can bring big changes to his family and community.

Like many places around the world, Kenya is prone to ‘climate shocks’, making rain and water unpredictable. Junior remembers those difficult seasons well:

“My teachers used to talk about the annual famine in our village, which brought widespread hunger. It’s the kind of hunger that sits in your stomach like a heavy stone.”

But through his local Compassion project, Junior learned something different. Together with local teachers and community leaders, families were shown sustainable ways to grow healthier food using less water and without harmful or expensive chemicals.

What may look like a small backyard garden is helping families become more resilient and hopeful for the future.

When children face uncertainty, we move. Today, we're handing over to 9-year-old Ian from Peru to share how his local church was there when his family home was badly damaged by heavy rainfall.
