Seventeen years later, I returned once again to my hometown — Beichuan
While paying respects to my grandfather and aunt, I finally completed this sound-image documentary work.
I have always believed that "truth carries immeasurable power." During just few days of interviews with surviving family members, I realized that all the planned artistic expressions felt fragile. In their direct and unembellished narratives lay countless forms of strength.
Even though time has frozen the old county in that moment, and my childhood memories feel distant and blurry, seeing the unknown little yellow flowers blooming among the ruins, and the large green leaves beyond a doorframe, everything felt alive and tender again. It was as if my memories had been re-fixed, pulled back to those summer afternoons of my childhood when I sought shade.
Seventeen years — time truly stretches like dough being pulled by a noodle master
But I believe, for me and my family, what remains after such a heavy history is filtered by time is something clear, enduring, and eternal: love and remembrance
