In my 9 plus years, this was like the 2nd or 3rd time doing “We will do a one take and that’s all you get.” Kinda attitude shoot. No one told me that it was her until the day before during prep. But I’m thankful to all the other Dop’s over the years giving me opportunities leading towards this in helping me to be as calm and at the same time learning to managing the department and dealing with expectations and discovering where you threshold is before taking a job and not being able to perform it.
Advise to all the new AC’s coming up, it’s not just buying more tech and claiming the title but also learning to know how to lead/manage and build a “genuine relationship “within ur team. This takes surely takes time, rushing to climb will just make u plateau at some point. If not you will drown in shoots like this… 😂

DHL x Coldplay 2024.

One of most challenging AND fulfilling shoot of 2024. Had a kid to take care that I totally forgot they were coming. Last min ballot tickets for ppl trying to get a seat FOR 10 DOLLARS but of course not being able to get. Eventually got called by a producer for a shoot on that day for but all he could tell me was for a logistics company. But to my surprise, I ended up working in that concert not just for 1 but 2 days (1 recce 1 shoot day 👍)
.
I’m really grateful not just for that but also for the 1st time being able to go for recce, plan as a cam dept head what equip we need and lead 2 units efficiently for the production to run as smooth as possible especially on a live show day while pulling at the same time. Things that I don’t get to do locally because of budget? But it makes the whole process less scary and more effective.
.
This shoot,mainly was helping the DP with lots of measurements with angle and dist. with subjects/objects to match frames as flawlessly as possible between 2 locations and running the setups quickly within the given time frames.
.
Just want to conclude that we’ve got to put in the years(and I MEAN MANY) and not just rush to climb up so that when you are put in this situation, you’d be ready for it :)
