We are honoured to share that our work has been selected as part of the Costume Institute’s summer exhibition, Superfine; Tailoring Black Style.

The exhibition explores the importance of style to the formation of Black identities in the Atlantic diaspora, particularly in the United States and Europe. Showcasing work from a selection of menswear designers, as well as the museum’s archives.

Denzilpatrick started out as a homage to Daniel’s rich family history, in particular his immigrant grandparents. With this opportunity, Daniel’s Jamaican ancestry has been given an incredible platform.

Daniel’s grandfather, Denzil, was indeed a black London dandy, a purveyor of classic tailoring and never without a hat. He passed this style onto his sons, including Daniel’s father, Dennis. And Dennis to his sons… the rest, as they say, is history.

In a season of focussed colour expression, highlights come through to textural shifts and contrasts.

An ecru merino wool pullover is layered over an embroidered silk shirt, which in turn is layered over a Japanese wool roll-neck sweater. These layers, paired with triple-crepe boxing shorts, highlight the strength of a reduced palette.

Zaki is wearing the Classic Shirt in printed cotton poplin. The shirt is updated with detachable plastron details.

The artwork on Zaki’s shirt echoes that of traditional lace curtains, at one time seen in every home up and down the country, as a signifier of social standing.

This season showcased a series of our house textiles; reinterpreted,and reproposed.

Here, Buba wears a black nylon Tail-Coat, over the washed velvet bomber jacket. Under the jacket is a corded lace shirt with pleated cotton plastrons.

A mix of urban and elegant materials crafted into contemporary garments with quiet historic twist.
